My No2 doesn't seem to like burning cleanly at full throttle. It burns with a lot of yellow flame. If i turn it so that the needle is starting to rise then it burns blue. This suggests to me that it is passing too much fuel on 'full'. Would you agree? If so then perhaps the jet is worn. Do any of you know how to source a replacement? Cheers GC
Have you checked the fold out windshield - sometimes there's a jet screwed into it that may have been painted over. You could do what the military have done - go for a diesel No:12!
Yep, checked the windshield but the hole is empty :-( I have a No12, running like a beauty on paraffin. I thought it was an overweight piece of junk when I got it, but it's proved itself to be ultra-reliable and easy to live with. Cheers GC
G C, have you been lighting it with petrol, it might be that the inside of the burner cap is a bit sooted, especially if you light it for short burns. I find stoves stay a lot cleaner if primed with meths. Easy to clean inside the cap - - but it might need warming with a blow lamp to persuade it to come off. Thanks for the P M, will do as you suggest. Did you get one about dragon rally badges?
DOH! DOH! DOH! I had a little think about it and wondered "if it looks like it is under too much pressure then is it under too much pressure?" So I did what I rarely do, I read the instructions. This wasn't too hard as they are printed in big squaddie-proof print on the windshield of the stove. And yes, I had been overpumping it by about, er, ahem (cough), ahhhh, (shuffle feet)... 14 strokes I released the tank pressure, pumped it the specified 6 strokes, primed it and lit it. Seems fine now although I notice it still burns yellow on one side of the burner. Just goes to show, the more you know the less you learn Cheers GC
I have had my Mk2 in bits and oeaces now. There was something stuck inside the burner. It still will not burn nice. Today I will try some carburator cleaner, to soak the burner in, and cleaning the tank with preassured air. Do anyone know how to take of the burner cap?
Can anyone help? Mine seems stuck on and I'm scared of applying too much force in the wrong direction. GC
Now, more problems. There are something stuck in the fuel line/pipe, from the tank. I have soeked it in carburator cleaner, citric accid etc. but nothing helps. Is there some kind of "filter" in the fuel line? How can I get the fuel line off? Thank you. (Do anyone have a pic. of the MK2 in bits?) Rune
Got the dirt out of the fuel line. Now its clean and it burns near good. My MK2 is burning a bit yellow on one side. Any ideas (yes I only pump 6 strokes) Greate stove
Can I use a jet from 111T on the MK2? It looks like its the same. How can I take off the burner cap? Is it threded, or do I have to pull it off? Please help, the stove is starting to irritate me?
Have you tried heating just the cap with a blow torch, don't heat down the sides too much - but plenty of heat on the top, the idea is to expand the cap quickly while the rest stays cool, when hot , lever up carefully from the bottom edge with a screw driver , just a tiny bit on one side at a time. GO CAREFULLY.
Sometimes these types of burners have two "clips" which the cap turns inside to lock on. Check the bottom rim of the burner cap to see if there are two flat spots oppsite each other. If there are, then the cap sits on the burner and is then turned 90 degrees to lock on. you must turn it until the two flat spots of the bottom rim are alingned with the "clips" to remove the cap. It will turn either direction to "unlock". lance
All the No:2 MKII I've reluctantly had to deal with the caps just levered up with a screw-driver. You may find a 111 jet fits. I've seen the current No:12 military stove fitted with the Cobra(?) silent burner - maybe this was the 'stealth' model for the SAS? I can sympathise with you getting sick of the stove - if I never see another one again I will be a happy man.
Ross, have you had trouble with the MK2 ? I like the design of the stove, and the heavy box, but its anoying with the tine hole for fuel, and the burner which not will burn as blue as I think it should. Rune
I once had to fettle about 20 before shipping them over the USA - I wasn't fond of them to start with - that finished me of. The unmodified No:2's were the worse with the crappy control knob at the front.
LOL. Yep, the standard one certainly is loud... at a recent rally I sat next to the stove nodding away at some bore trying to talk to me. I didn't hear a word he said, but the occasional nod kept him happy Cheers GC
