UPDATE: Oddly, I couldn't screw an MSR cap into a Primus bottle. It wouldn't thread correctly at the start. A Sigg cap went into the Primus bottle just fine. This is particularly odd since I've used my Primus pump with an MSR bottle before, and I've used MSR pumps on Sigg bottles. I suppose there must be some subtle differences in the threads. So far seems like the most failproof is MSR bottle with the holes and a tiny funnel. I admit that going funnel-less was tempting, but I'd rather be safe instead of sorry.
When I was using my 123 regularly I always used a Sigg bottle and no funnel. I always filled it a long way from anything burnable, where I was going to use it and where I was going to sleep. That way the splillings were only waste
Old thread I know, but I'm looking for a pour spout for my old Sig bottle, and was wondering what the state-of-the art is these days. I am using the Trangia one on an old Sigg 1.5liter bottle. Works for me! It is a lot handier than using the bottle as is with a funnel. I'll have to try the short clear plastic tube on it, looks like a good idea. Best regards, Wim

I'm bumping this thread also, but I think I have a good reason... I have a +/- 30 year old bottle and basic cap that's virtually the same as the one in the first picture in idahostoveguy/sam's February 2011 post. I don't have the cap with the "straw" and wish I could find one. I haven't been able to find a current source for one; searches of the usual sites resulted in "not currently stocked". My cap has the holes on opposite sides at the top of the thread. The problem is unscrewing the cap enough to expose the holes has two results: 1. Unscrewing the cap just enough to expose the holes allows some of the fuel that comes out of the hole to follow around the "lip" of the bottle opening (due to surface tension) and run down the outside of the bottle, spills, and makes a hazardous mess. 2. Unscrewing the cap a little more in hopes of having the stream that leaves the hole clear the lip makes the cap so loose that a good amount of fuel now exists through the threads and some of it again spills down the side of the bottle. Also just taking the cap off and pouring straight from the bottle results in the "dreaded dribble". I've made a small funnel out of heavy duty aluminum foil that fits nicely in my Optimus 199 tank and forms tight under the lip of my bottle. But that only mitigates some of the spillage. Does anyone know where to get one of the caps with the "straw"? Tanx, KMK
When I bought my 123 non R in the late 60's I bought one of the German made fuel tins, it sprung a leak on the first hike. I took it back to REI and traded it in on a SIGG .6L aluminum fuel bottle and a red plastic pouring spout which I tied to the cap. I still have and use it. That's about 40 years now. the bottle loods as if it had been under the treads of a D-9 Cat when it turned, but that little bottle still holds fuel. Gerry.
Hi, It maybe a case here of "your results may vary" or something up w/your bottle or cap? I just tried, MSR and SIGG older standard caps w/opposing holes as you describe, both tried on same SIGG bottle you describe. With both caps if I'm careful or not, slow or fast, I do get one drip each time I upright it. I see the one drip on the collar, imo it's vapor as it drips down the side, it's there but nothing to wipe up. I could live w/that. "The pour" was quite different, my bad, I poured from SIGG's big hole (the MSR both holes are small, I expect ONLY for that reason MSR pour was easier to manage). I like an MSR cap on MSR bottle, it just works, not a drip and 1 cap. I do not know where you can get a SIGG straw type pour cap (or the lil red ring Sigg pour spout). I can't tell you if these are any good. The black REI & Olicamp look like same spout caps to me (also 1 cap). You know, I just bought my first Trangia bottle and cap so I could get free shipping on an order. Gives me the wet finger too! (Sounds kinda dirty when you say it that way.)
Mine doesn't look quite that bad, but I've drop/semi-thrown it around for 30 years and it's still chugging along (pun intended). One reason I keep using it. omc, Thanks for the link.
