Svea No 5 Early Model

    Hi All

    By the information I have found on the site about this stove it would appear it’s from about 1915.
    Would appear not to be the correct burner, top engravings are a bit worn now but top plate is not cracked so not to bad a find I guess.
    One photo shows bottom of tank and number 3 stamped on it.

    Could somebody please tell me what the writing says or means in last photo.

    Hi, thanks to the magic of CCS:

    It's in pre-1917-spelling reform Russian.

    It says: "Svea" // Max Sievert Ltd (well, "company with shares", render as you will; it doesn't specify whether private or public), Stockholm, Sweden

    Hi Kerophile, thank you for above, I see you also have a stove like this, is above writing on yours, if not any idea why some have it on and others do not.

    Hi Steve, Russia was a major market for Swedish stoves, which explains the extensive Cyrillic lettering. Post 1917 and the Russian Revolution imports were reduced as Russia, and later the USSR, built up their own manufacturing capability (many stoves were made at Tula)

    Your No.5 stove is earlier than the one I have and photographed. I don't think there are Cyrillic captions on my stove. Perhaps the Russian market was temporally closed?

    My daughter is a French/Russian/English Interpreter and it was she who provided the translation.
