Finally I got a 99... my gues is that is a later one due to the flat tank shield (am I correct?) It was in a very good condition, after some cleaning and cap seal replacing it looked and worked like this. BTW It is missing the pot handle so I am looking for one...
wow! I was mistaken then... I thought that because the tank has the indents where the tank shield should pivot... Anyone knows how to date an optimus like this? Why didn't they just stamped a date like Coleman did??
that cleaned up really nice the 99 is my "go to"stove,the cover/pot makes it just right for a boil up without having to bring along a pot.
I've never given the 99's much thought to be honest. They remind me of a filleted 8R. That said, they are kinda cute... If it lights readily, it's a good'un.
Nice find and fettle!!! The pan lifter or handle is available at Base-Camp for the sum of £ 4.80 Part number 2341. From what I have read so far the Optimus 99 came out around 1974 - 1975. The mini pump came out in 1976. When they changed to the later style I don't know yet. Cheers, Jeff

Same size as the 8r give of take a little shorter. The 99 weighs 600grams ± and holds 130ml± The 111 weighs 1500grams ± and holds 1 pint Jeff
Very nice, you got the original strap too. I really like the 99 for the same reason as Dave G. Because of the integrated pot, I find that I use this stove far more often than the 8R. My wife thinks it's cute, which doesn't hurt either. Steve
Hi, Xavi, Congrats on scoring your 99, Sir! Well done. 8) They are very nice little stoves, and I've always liked them. I "think" there are three different versions of this stove, but I can't recall where they fit into each other. I do believe that Murph is right in saying that the one with the 8R windscreen was the last version offered. But, I have two more types, and will have to check to see if I made notes as to who was first, and who was next, as we know who was last, in the development of the 99. Hi, thanks all for the kind words. I took a look at the Catalog and Parts list sections and found that the '75 brochure shows a flat tank shield... So my guess is that that one is early style. The original strap shows Ireland stamped... ?? BTW just got a set of Viton cap seals and a pot handle from Base Camp...

Ditto Xavi, very pretty. Isn't that what's called a 'midi' pump? I have one that is about half that size with around a 1" stroke.
