I picked up one of these alcohol containers from M&I Surplus in Pomona California.

It appears to be a 1 liter container as assumed to be used with the Swedish Army "Trangia" cook kit. The cook kit includes a small, maybe 8oz fuel container. This one looks to be a companion to the kit for "Squad" level use?

If you are interested in getting one of these they can be bought for about $1.97 US plus tax. I don't know if they sell via interenet, but then who doesn't? Here is a webpage with some detail on the store.

I always find something unusual to buy when I visit. Been buying here since the early 80s. Even bought a can of USGI Hot dog weenies way back. They had little green speckles on them Tasted odd, not funny results. I think it was WWII surplus of late 1940's

    Hi Jim, Nice spirit container.

Glad to hear you survived the the veteran Hot dogs.
People are wimps nowadays when to comes to food. Too much reliance on 'sell by' and 'best by' dates.
Whatever happened to the good old smell and taste test?
    Good enough for our ancestors!

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Yeah, like my godmother always said "How do you know you don't like it, if you don't try some?".

I do have a reputation for having a cast iron stomach. A old girlfriend once told me her mother liked me a lot. I puffed out my chest and was feeling mighty proud and asked her why? She said "because , I eat anything".

My wife tells me everything I eat smells like it came out of a garbage can. My opinion is that some foods just take getting past the smell.

Ah well, wonder if I should crack open that Old C ration I bought at M&I way back in the 80s? Turkey loaf, yumm. Actually too bad. I liked the old C rations and their cans of candy and cupcakes, MREs are OK in their way but the C rats I think were better.

If my memory serves, this was for personal use, issued with the "purple flame" style cooker for ranger units.

I guess you go through a lot of meths on those long range patrols, with a lot of snow melting. Nowadays I reckon, they've all switched over to multifuels of some variety.

160 Degrees Fahrenheit cures most problems.

Comments of I'd never eat that and I hate that, it's gross, crack me up!

There are many things that are not on my top 10 best to eat list but I will not dilute myself to the point of saying "I'll NEVER eat that"

I have no doubt that when my stomach thinks my throat has been cut I'll move down that "like to eat" list to the I'd "rather not" and lastly to the "as last resort" list. Knock on wood that doesn't have to happen any time soon.

Ruggers eat their ________ ? Not part of the primary plan for sure!

C rats were far better than the old K rats found in the life rafts we had on the first Coast Guard Cutter i served on. Those things would gag a magaot and make him/her puke.
