Does anyone know if the stove NRV seals (pips) that Spiritburner sells will fit the Baby Enders #9063? He offers two sizes 4.0 mm & 4.5 mm. If neither fits, what diameter punch should I buy in order to try to make one? David
I don't know what size is specific to the Enders baby but an alternative to buying a punch is buy the appropriate size VITON and Nitrile cord from McMaster - Carr. It is cheaper and you don't end up with an hour-glass shaped pip. http://www.mcmaster.com/#rubber/=c4rq9t Dave
I only had to loosen up the pip on mine, it was stuck, it was harder to unscrew the end to access it. Duane
David, Do you have some photos of your Enders pip? I have been able to find three different types on the Enders stoves I have. For starters look at photos 8 and 9 in this superb post by a CSS member, link here . The two seen in the post are different with one pip being vaguely similar to an Optimus type and the other; which I have found on some of my military stoves, is a washer with an outer diameter of 10mm and a hole diameter of approximately 3mm. With photos it might be a bit easier to help you with your effort. In the meantime be safe and have fun.
The sealing rubber is almost level with the brass pip. Do I drill or cut the piece sealing rubber? I did not fully dissemble the pump because I thought that the sealing washer would break. I soaked the whole pump assembly in neatsfoot oil and the pump cup expanded. David
The Enders brass NRV vaguely resembles the Optimus NRV except for the hollow set screw...The idea is the same, keep fuel from seeping backwards into the piston chamber when pressure is applied. The diameter of the pip is roughly 0.250" (1/4") Since I do not have a metric punch I use a sharpened piece of titanium aviation fuel tubing, the tolerances are very close though. The contact surface of the pip being equal to the rim of the NRV cup is OK as long as the pip seats evenly against the valve. Viton is the material of choice for its resistance to fuel and temperature. Removing the pip can be as easy as piercing it with a pin or sharpened awl; near the center and lifting it out, if the pip has hardened you might be able to lift it out from its edge with an exacto blade being careful not to tear the brass cup. No drills and no cutting necessary. The sealing washer will be at least as aged as the pip and can be made from viton too, it is 21mm OD x 14mm ID. It is worked loose by gently twisting and lifting with the direction of the threads. Please don't hesitate to write with more questions. Have fun, be safe!
