just bought an optimus 45 good condition, working. I paid fifteen quid for it. was that an ok price, or was it a bit steep?
A fine price. I quit actively collecting when I obtained my own holy grail stove, and Optimus 45 with tin, the stove I'd had as a kid in the early 60s. It was a little-fired stove in pristine condition with a perfect tin, hard to find, and it cost around $125, eight or so years ago. I was happy to pay it.
Great stove, still in use in the Antarctic by the brits down there when on field trips. I've a couple and they are worth having for sure, £15 is a good price these days. I've a silent burner version too but its just not got that 'feel' to it.
It came with the clamp type primus windshield as well, and a top ring for sitting your pan on. poured in some paraffin, oiled the pump leather, a little meth preheating and up it fired!
