This is in regard to installing the cleaning needle on the 8R and 123R stoves.

In the past, I have held the valve body under a strong light and counted the
teeth on the shaft as I rotated it CCW.

After coutning the five teeth, I would place the needle and then rotate the shaft CW, thereby locating the cleaning nozzle.

Since then, I have tried another easier method that seems to work.
No guarantees of course, but comments would be appreciated.

Rotate valve shaft CW to cloase valve.
Turn shaft CCW just over 1/2 turn, 5/8 seems be OK.
    Insert cleaning needle, rotate CW.
    Install jet.
    Done.

This is based on the shaft having eight teeth. One half rotation clears four teeth.
Since you need four to five teeth engagement, this seems to work.

I am new to posting on this board but have been reading it for some time. It has been very helpfull to me. Thank you.

    Hi Kenh,
Try closing the valve, then drop the needle in & with a little down pressure on the needle, open the valve slowly whilst counting the number of 'clicks', as you say 4 seems about right. I like the pencil rubber idea, being not too bright, I usually end up with 8R acupuncture

    5 click on the 8R.
JC, you do not need to use all your strenght when you hold the needle.
A bit easyer on the finger, and you will not get the acupuncture.

    Hi Runegutt,
The instructions say 3-4 teeth, but the chances are that you might get a wider operating range with 5, as long as the needle doesn't hit bottom before the valve seats fully.

    Gentlemen

When I made the original post, it was my understanding that
4 to 5 clicks is what the manufacturer says is the standard.

Now I see where some think that it is three to four clicks.

Praytell, what is the correct OFFICIALLY DOCUMENTED AND NOT
OPINION BASED number of clicks ?

There are two models of cleaning needles for the 8R
One which will work best with 5 klick, one thats best with 3.
Thats why some are a bit confused here.

So, if your needle is identical with the 111, use 3-4 clisk, if its smaller, then use 5.
The smallest needle will, when adjusted to 5 clicks, get the highest output.

I do not have any pics right now.
I will put out some one day.

The new ones are short(They starts right on the thred thing)
Alzo: If you buy a completly new cleaning needle, 5 click.
If you do not know: five click, but if thats to much, you will not be able to completly close the stove.

Blow it out, and try one click less.''

    Gentlepeople

Now we are making some progress, as I did not know
that two sizes of cleaning needles were ever used.

In as much as I only have the 8R stoves ( 4 ) and the
SVEA 123 ( only one but still trying ), I do not have anything
    compare with.

All of my four 8R cleaning needles are the same size, and
as such I assummed all of the needles were also.

Now if we could get some measurements of the two needles
    perhaps we can move forward.

    Thank you,

    Ken H.

    You can see the difference:
The new short is cut off under the threds, the old one has a unthreded part at bottom.

If the cleaning needle is installed

Too Deep More than 5 clicks, the needle will then bottom out when the valve
is closed. This would limit the control of the stove. Stove would
    leak fuel when turned off.

Just Right Somewhere between 3 to 5 clicks, depending on personal
experiences. This should give the maximum range.

Too Shallow Only one or two clicks, then the cleaning needle body will hit
the underside of the nozzle jet. Stove would probably be operating
    with only marginal performance.

As such, this brings us to this question

What is the relationship of the number of clicks to the degrees of rotation
available when the stove control is rotated from full closed CCW to the cleaning
    position ( Full CCW ratation ) ?

It seems logical that one could measure the degrees turn and know
immediately how deep the cleaning jet was installed.

Anybody ever measure it and see ?
