Hi, I’m new to this site, and am happy to have found it. You guys are great. Got me hooked…

I have always loved searching/finding vintage camping/hunting equipment either in second hand stores or garage sales. Recently I was out of town on a holiday and found two camping pot sets with their stoves in a second hand store. Not knowing anything about them, just that I wanted them, so for $9.95 I took them home. By visiting this site I have been able to learn more about these sets and now can’t wait to go camping and give them a try.

First is a Sigg Tourist set with a Svea stove – complete except for the strap. Second is a Trangia set – missing the two pots and handle, but does have the fry pan and small kettle. Both working, but the Trangia needs a new Oring.

Now for the last few weeks I have been looking everywhere I go for more stoves and apparel.
    Can’t get enough…..

Smolder, welcome to the site. You have a very good eye for classic equipment, too. Both sets are highly coveted by collectors and hikers. If you have questions, please feel free to fire away. My normal fee is a Sigg Tourist set with a Svea Stove.

I don't know how good you are, but you sure are lucky.

Great finds. Show us some pictures when you have time.

Welcome aboard the ship of Pyros(Tm), Smoulder, where 'Set fire to it' is the usual answer

By cosmic chance you've lucked into arguably 2 of the best stove sets to be had. The Trangia is a bit odd and clunky until you realize the damn thing ALWAYS works. You can win bets with it by setting it up in a snorting cross wind that would render just about any other stove unusable even in skilled hands. It'll just sit there like a rock while your betting buds chuckle and heckle then suddenly start venting steam like there was a prize for it. Cash in time! 8) Is it a 25 or a 27? The 25 is a the larger of the 2. It would be worth getting replacement pots for it. As long as you have fuel, you're are good to go.

The Sigg is just plain stylee, I'm planning on being buried with mine, not having friends or relatives whom I think worthy of it.

How can I tell if the trangia is a 25 or 27?
The top of the wind screen measures about 6 5/8" outside. I do see the number 25 on the lid of the burner, but is this enough to go by? I would imagine that the 25 and 27 burners are interchangable.

My T25 is 198mm across the upper windshield (the bit the fry pan sits on) the T27 will be handily smaller, 50mm or more I would think. I'm guessing yours is the T27 The T27 is rated as 1-2 people, the 25 as 2-4 people. Trangia only make 1 size of meths burner for all models, ditto the simmer ring that actually works. The simmer ring (that you hopefully have but is easily got if not) is near enough to vital for stew cooking, the burner is slow to get going but does wind up. Good rig and does so too work just fine when you are up to your  in snow, you just need to be a tiny bit cunning. Hope this helps.

Here is a picture of the Trangia. Had a bit of an issue getting the pictures file size small enough to upload, sorry its not as clear as I was aiming for.

Fabulous Svea 123 and cookset you've got there. You've got one of the good 123's -- before Optimus bought out Sievert and changed the 123 to the 123R. Just my opinion (some people really like the newer 123R). You've got a nice complete set. You've even got the pump, although it's a great set with out the pump. I've not used the pump on my 123, but supposedly it can be very helpful in cold weather. Everything looks like it's in good condition. The only thing you appear to lack is the "pricker" (cleaning wire) so that you can clean out the stove jet when needed.

I can't tell too much about the Trangia from the photos, but it looks like a good one. You just need to get the two pots, and you're all set. The kettle certainly looks like it's in good condition.
