Hello, The sun was shining, the kids were happy playing and the wife was out shopping, so I thought I'd do a bit of stove fettling. Needed to replace the jet cleaning needle on my Phoebus 725, last time I used it, I noticed the flame was a bit 'off' ! Here's the old cleaning needle after being removed from the stove: Clear that it needs to be replaced ! Here's the new needle I recently won on the bay in a pack of Phoebus 725 spares: They're not the same ! In fact when I put the new needle into the stove, fuel continued to seep out of the jet, even with the control spindle fully in the off position. Anyone know to which stove the new needle belongs ? I replaced the old needle, and a new jet too, and the stove burned a nice blue flame. However when I closed off the spindle, I got this little flame burning away for a good 5 minutes before I blew it out: I reckon the spindle isn't closing properly, or the old cleaning needle is not seated properly, one and the same thing really, I suppose ? I'm worried now that I may have damaged something on the spindle. Any ideas Spudz
Hey, Spudz, Sorry to hear you're having problems with your 725. The cleaning needle with the truncated top, the one you took out originally, is the proper needle for the 725. The needle you got in the pack of Phoebus spares looks, to me, as if it is proper for the 625, so keep it for your "future" 625. When you replaced the original needle, had you tried to straighten the needle, at all? If not, I would do so, gently, gently, and see if that helps at all. Otherwise, you may need a new needle, to go with your new jet. I don't think that you could have harmed the new jet you have, by trying the 625 jet. So, your installation of the needle could just be a few cogs off from what is needed for a full seal. Just remember, never "force" anything! That way, lies madness, me Lad!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, I don't know, for sure, how many clicks you should attempt, to make the Phoebus needle seat correctly. I'll try to look in my paperwork. But, I think I sent you copies of everything I had on hand. So, if it's not in your paperwork, I don't know what to tell you. I'd cast about on the 'net, and see if you can find a few spare needles, made expressly for the 725. Good to have them on hand, just in case. Good luck, take care, and God Bless! Thank you Robert for that 'interesting' news. More likely to find a spare 8r jet I suspect, than one for a 725. And as always, thanks Doc for the info. Me being me, I didn't even read the instructions ... doh ! #-o .. just ploughed straight ahead, but with care. ! Oh impetuous youth I'm kinda 'all thumbs' when it comes to stuff like this, so am nervous that I may actually be doing more harm than good, but ... if you never try, you'll never know, eh ? Thanks for the tip on the Optimus Needle. Have you ever seen a priming pump for the Phoebus 725? Something tells me they were available at one time and quite similar to the midi pump for the Optimus 8r. Bud
