The other day after reading about the $18 Trangia cook-set knockoff at campor I bought one. I got my cook-set and made some tea. This set does not come with the simmer lid. So I want to put the fire out and I had a supercat sitting next to me. I grabbed that and set it over the hole in the cooker. I was just thinking it would just smother the fire like a simmer ring. This is what it did to the supercat. ( I have had many fires and made lots of tea in the supercat. I never expected it would do this when I tried to smother the fire with the bottom of it )
I am guessing here but perhaps the evaporation of the alcohol cools the stove when it is burning. Simply puttin it on top of another stove provides no cooling to that paper thin aluminum (melts at 1100F)
Does Alcohol burn that hot? I thought it was like 700°F. I am surprised I have not seen damage to the cheap light aluminum cooking pots. Granted they are not as thin as the supercat.
