MSR Overview (from Outdoor Retailer 2011)

I attended the August Outdoor Retailer trade show in Salt lake City where MSR had a small stove "museum" set up on one side of their booth. I asked for, and received permission to take a few photographs and post them on CCS.

 

Interesting photos although some of them may be mis-identified (the Model 9 vs. the Dual Fuel).

Exactly why I posted these! If the discussions on this forum are correct with regard to details on certain models, some of these could be mis-labeled. (particularly the model #9)

But this was the MSR booth--I would think that there is some old-timer over there that can accurately identify MSR stoves--and I hesitate to question the manufacturer on their own stoves.

The Multi-fuel I didn't immediately see a problem with--the bend of the fuel supply tube looks right, but it has the crimped flame spreader, which I thought was exclusive to the #9, but the #9 in this display does not have a crimped flame spreader...

Anyone care to re-label them?

 

classic stoves being displayed in glass cases like something out of King Tuts Tomb is sort of a hoot!!

 

Doc was saying that he had some ideas on this (photos from the Outdoor Retailer show were posted earlier here on the forum), but I got an email from him saying that he was having some computer problems.

Hopefully he'll have those resolved soon and be able to comment.

How did I miss these at the show? Hmm... I'll have to look harder in the winter.

I suspect that the Model 9 and the DF are reversed. I think the exhibitor got it wrong. Would that Doc would get his computer up and running so that we could get his input on this.

Sorry to be so long in getting back to you, and also for this brief reply. More to say, but no time. I had already mentioned this to Drew Keegan from MSR, and he told me that the display had been setup by folks from MSR that were not into stoves, and that they didn't check with him, or Steve, or anyone else in the stoves area, to make sure that everything was listed and displayed properly. Mistakes were made, unfortunately, so those photos of the display, and the display, itself, are in error, sorry to say. Talk to you later, as time permits. Take care, and God Bless!

Doc! Nice to see you posting again.

I figured as much. There was no way those labels were matched with the correct stove. Sloppy work I say. If you're going to set up a display on your own company's history, shouldn't you at least get the high level details right -- as in which of your own company's products you're displaying??

I hope some time you'll come back to this post and correctly identify the stoves.
