Hello everyone! On the Clikstand site it shows how one can make a coat hanger wire grate to use on the Clikstand for smaller pots and cups. I was curious if anyone has tried this with an Olicamp/GSI (that nests with Nalgene bottle). Looking at the photos it looked might it still be a bit wobbly given the dimensions. Can anyone describe the amount of stability with this arrangement with Olicamp/GSI cups? Many thanks!
I haven't tried it. I can say that "out of the box" the Clikstand is a little iffy with smaller pots. I tried a 780ml pot, and it really wasn't stable. I also tried an 850ml mug shaped pot, and it was better, but still not satisfactory. A 1000ml pot with traditional proportions works really well. Again, all of these observations are based on an unmodified, "out of the box" Clikstand. The GSI and Olicamp cups are what 550ml? 650ml? That seems a little small even with an adapter although to be honest I haven't tried it. The big advantage to something on the order of a 1000ml pot is that the Clikstand, when disassembled, will fit in the pot, something I don't think you'll be able to do with a GSI or Olicamp type cup. Hello Haven't tried to make the coat hanger thingy. I have used two titanium tent pegs/nails. That works okay. It lowers the pot/cup by a few millimeters. But has no affect on the burner or boil times I believe. Another option is using the pot supports from a later Optimus 199 stove. Makes a very stable pot support for the Trangia. But in case you don't have an Optimus 199 you can try the nail pot stand approach. Like seen here on YouTube Link and here Link Another idea is if your just taking the cup along why bring the clikstand at all. Maybe a simple pop can stove or Esbit stove would do wonders. Just a suggestion though. Cheers, Jeff
Ah, interesting ideas Jeff. Good one on the tent pegs. Are they stable though? I'd be worried about knocking them to one side or another and having my cup fall in. Seems like some of the flame would also go up the side and be wasted, yes? Of course with a narrow mug type pot, flame "spillage" is almost inevitable with any set up. HJ
They are stable. The windscreen holds everything in as well. There is "flame spillage". Doesn't really matter but it might make sense to use the simmer ring. As you say almost inevitable with cup/mug and narrow pots. I think they make a Caldera come for the mug. That would be a better bet.
I like that tent peg idea. Ingenious IMO. Having just got a Brasslite, though, it has a built-in solution to this problem. Pot stand would work fine for the Olicamp cup. If you have to carry extra kit to make a stove work the way you want it to, then the slightly extra weight of the Brasslite becomes a non-issue doesn't it? Oddly, I was just thinking of finding my Olicamp cup and using it for the Brasslite. The stove would fit inside perfectly. Now, which pack did I put it in? LOL.
