Morning/afternoon everyone!! Off camping next week so was checking my kit. When I'm pumping the tank on my 111 it's quite difficult to pull the rod out - like a suctiony type feeling Is this a fault or just a peculiarity??? The stove works fine on the burn. If it wasn't an 'O' ring job I'd change the washer as a matter of course. Cheers
reuben, Make sure that the NRV pip isn't leaking. If fuel gets pushed back into the pump tube you will be pulling the pump rod out against liquid that is trying to hold it in place. This could be a very dangerous condition especially if it is a 111B. I have had one that had a very tight pump washer and oil took care of it. Hope the latter is your trouble. This reminds me that I need to order need to purchase some misc. spares. AR
On stoves with leather pump cups, you have to consider these points. -Is there free play between the pump rod seal taper and the brass pump cup carrier? The pump piston assembly should slide up and down on the pump rod by approximately 2mm, to break the seal on the pull stroke. -Another problem could be that the piston assembly could be sealing against the nut at the bottom end of the pump rod on the pull stroke. Usually there is a screwdriver slot that should allow air to pass between the securing nut and the piston cup carrier. If there is no slot present, one can be cut or a small 'Star' washer can be fitted to stop the sealing affect on the pull stroke. Has your 'O'ring pump assembly have any sliding movement on the pump rod? John
I agree with ..., make sure there is some free play between the disk that holds the o-ring and the pump rod. Maybe just a bit of crud on it.
Thanks everyone, I'll strip the pump & have a look. I hope it's not the NRV - it's on paraffin, but I might get a replacement NRV anyway just in case. Could I replace the pump rod with an earlier one with a leather washer?? Just seems less of a faff. Cheers Al
