This is what you need: WLI 600 Fuel Line Assembly (msr 419612) It includes the cut cable. About £24.99 or € 28.60 Cheers, Rob
I sent a mail to MSR, and they could not deliver parts for this one anymore, They claimed the pump to be safe, but the tube was likely to be brittle. Their suggestion was to let me put the stove in display and get new one to -40%. Still quite much money when the Whisperlite has a cost of NOK 1299 (US$ 220 UK£ 143) The XGK and dragonfly NOK 2299 (US$ 389 UK£ 252) OK -40% +P&P (NOK250?) Now my question is what to do? The dragonfly simmer much better, The new Whisperlite is coming next year, and will probably still be difficult to simmer, the cost will rise to; let me guess NOK 2299 I could of course change that hose by myselves. I do not actually need a brand new stove. I could go downtown and get the stove in shop for -25% and not have any P&P (If I wait on a campaign). The difference will be minimal. dsk
I still have the original fuel line for my old Int'l, I replaced it years ago thinking I needed the newer braided line. You used to be able to get the upgraded line easily. I noticed on my newer Int'l that the line is shorter. I'll have to research the physical differences in the Int'l and the 600. I also have a newer line that is for a Whisperlite, which I happened to pick up a vintage WL last winter that has the older fuel line. Duane
Hey DSK, is the wispherlite assembly you are looking for have the brass tube over the stainless? If it is, I may want to trade if you have something to trade. PM me. Ron
Thank you all, for help and advice. I guess I want it to look original, or leave it for display. The hose are fabric covered (picture at the first post in this thread) A possibility is to expand the clamps, change the hose inside the cloth cover, and reuse the clamps. Have you trided something like that, and do you have any stories about how it turned out? dsk
Today I easaed the hose in the stove end. The web has been white, the rubber hose was not brittle, and can probably do the job for even many more years. I made the clamp a little wider, assembled everything and thightend the clamp again. (Used a pair of pincers) dsk
>First Post! Hey DSK, I'm the proud original owner of the same stove as you. Grey pump, black cloth fuel line. Mid eighties. The generator tube was cracked for the last 15 years so it was left on the shelf, but I contacted MSR and they will replace it for 20 dollars including shipping! Also the proud owner of my dads mid fifties coleman 425b two burner stove. Still works great but my brother lost the grate in the 1970's so I'm looking for a replacement.
Last night while searching a little online, came across a photo of a stove with the scalloped edges like a model 9 but the flat generator/fuel line of the MF, but no wire coil around it. Something else for our mix. Duane
Thinking more... No! I want a stove I can use. MSR states it is no spares for this stove. Then I had to find replacements. What is affordable, and high quality? Ihave tested out a pump and hose quite equal to Kovea Booster / Brunton Lander. The Chinese TK-800 OR BRS 8. I find this modification well working, and safe. Safer than the old setup!
DSK wrote: "Trying to bring this thread alive, and back on track. Is the hose on my 23yrs old Whisperlate safe? What kind of tube is put there, under the fabric. Do I have something with rubber who may break any time, or is it something made to last? The grey pump i still working, but I if I understand Doc right, it's no reason for using it, it may fail without any warning. dsk" Good Morning, my Friend! First, I strongly believe that your hose, if not unsafe now, WILL become unsafe at some time in the future! The reason that MSR, and virtually ALL other manufactures went to brass/stainless-covered fuel lines, was because rubber, cloth-covered fuel lines were failing right, left, and center, and it was time to move on to something that would last indefinitely, which the rubber hoses most certainly will not do! Second, without modifications to your stove, you cannot use the WLI fuel line, as it is far too thick, and simply will not fit into the slot with which your stove was manufactured. If you wish to save your old stove, I would continue to seek out an original MSR (updated!) fuel line, and simply call it good. Third, as to your black and grey pump, I believe that this version is really a fairly good one, which should last a very long time, given care in use. The tabs can break off of the pump, if you are too enthusiastic in your pumping! I never used to believe that, but then broke two of them in a row, and that cause Ol' Doc to see the light on this one! BUT, if you use your pump with care, I see no reason why it won't last for yours. The other alternative is to seek out a brand new MSR pump, which is really beefed up and more solid than any others that MSR has yet offered, and call it good, retiring your old black and grey pump to the display shelf. Regarding the new Whisperlite Universal, I have one heading my way, even as I type this, and hope it will arrive fairly soon. After having seen it in action when our friends from MSR, Drew and Steve kindly did their demo at the OSG last year, I believe this stove is a massive improvement over any and all Whisperlite stoves of the past, though the original Whisperlite, like your stove, have a lot going for them. Add a simmering plate to yours, replace the fuel line, and either use care with your original pump, or replace it, and hey, you are (as we used to say back in the '60's) "Ready for Freddy"!! 8) Dsg Ståle, as we have discussed privately, if you wish to get a new Universal stove, let me know, and we'll work that out. Or, if you want me to seek out a replacement fuel line for you, maybe I can find the proper one, given time. I hope this has helped at least a little. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
It's a bit late, but on the first page of this thread, the hose clamps on the stove were shown and identified with "OETU". These clamps are made by Oetiker and are commonly available. I use them all the time on air, water and Propane torch hoses. In my experience, they are very reliable and easy to install. They can be had in zinc plate or stainless steel. We get repair kits that come with a variety of clamps and an installation tool. I have not tried to use them on any stoves and don't have a source for the small fuel hose. They might be useful as emergency repair clamps.
Doc I think I actually got a universal, or at least a dual fuel stove here, and I trust this parts used as safe. The new MSR pump, seems to be a well designed one, I still guess this is not worse. I'm not even sure if I want the new stove. (may this be a bad sign for a stove-oholic?) dsk
Hi, DSK! Great to hear from you, my Friend! How about posting a photo of the new stove you received, and we can figure out what it is? I did get the new WPU (Whisperlite Universal, and I have to say, it's a very nice stove, with lots of great new features. You can see what I received in the Stove Reference Gallery, if you want. In any case, please do let me know if I can help in any way, and I'll be happy to do so. Give the family Sweet Bride's and my best regards, and talk to you soon. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
hi all im new here but made an account just to say you all were very helpful at identifying and cleaning my first stove. i got the msr original with the black fabric hose cover from my partners parents when they were downsizing their camping gear, ill try and post some pictures but it really is an awesome little stove and i cant wait to get it running. anyone know how to identify what fuel is in the bottles? one is pretty full and the other with the pump is about half full, thanks again for all the info. cheers Zero
Just got gifted an early Whisperlite, grey and black pump, black cloth covered feed tube. Non shaker jet fired right up on he unknown age fuel in one of the bottles that came with the stove. Yes priming is super sooty. Cleaned it well but not polished or anything crazy. Simmered nicely. Will get some HEET to prime with, unless they're better suggestions. Also a parts kit just because.
