    Hello,
Does anyone have an idea on the type of washer used on a Optimus 22B that was used between the burners and the spirit cup. Mine totally crumbled apart.

    Thanks

lead should work, and be easy to make.

thanks for your thoughts. I'm not really sure what size to make them as they fell apart I can guess from the pieces but am wondering about the hole in the bottom of the burner. I guess the washer will need to be small enough to keep this hole open above the spirit cup. The washer must serve as a filler to give the burner more surface area on the spirit cup?

Any worry about lead being lit up during priming?

it might melt a little round the edges but that would eliminate any errors in its making and cause it to seal better. You have to get it much hotter than a meths preheat will before worrying about poisonous vapours from the lead. Pure lead is not that poisonous unless you eat it as its relatively inert. Your body cant absorb it in any quantity. Long term though it will get you but this means working with the stuff every day for years. Chemicals containing lead though can be very bad news

The exploded diagram for the 111B say "lead packing". Lead flashing is not very common in the US but if you have some old lead sinkers you can hammer a large one flat and then punch a hole in it. (I imagine Minnesota has banned lead sinkers by now.)

    Thanks Itchy,
Terrific suggestion to use a sinker this way. The material looks to have been asbestos.

On a side note, a good source for sheet lead was a local commercial roofing company that specialized in use of copper. They had ample supply of lead off cuts and were happy to share. Boy wonder and I melted a bunch for fishing jigs. Minnesota has not banned the use of lead but the shops seem to be moving people away from it. Might try bismuth next time.
