Hello, My first 123 arrived. I followed the instruction by others on CCS how to prime and lite. (Thank you.) The stove made the whump, whump, sound and produced a good blue flame. Then it seemed to blow it self out. Repeated only to get a poor flame on one side. Shut down. Cleaned the jet, with pricking needle and lit. This time a did get a nice flame but it did not make the whump whump sound and the tank was hot. I was surprised how hot the take gets. Is this normal?
I hope you did not fill the tank up. Normally it should be 2/3rd's only. Yeah, it gets hot to the touch but not uber....otherwise, there must be something wrong. Ron
Sounds like your 123 is working well. I will say that the tank on my 123 stoves gets quite hot indeed. I surely wouldn't want to touch them after they've been in use for a while. Now is that uber hot? Not sure. Define uber. HJ
Hot to the touch for both my 123r and 123 seems to be normal. The tanks stay a little cooler when in use with the Sigg Tourist cookset. I would recommend getting one if can find it. Mike.
The Sigg Tourist cooksets can be got for reasonable money, I bought one of ebay complete with a working Swedish 123R for £50.00 recently. I didn't need the 123R but I suppose I can sell it!
Several months ago I bought a Sigg Tourist set with a Primus 71 and a Svea 123 stove. Only the 123 fit into the depression in the windscreen and washer hold downs; the 71 was too small. Did they configure the set for specific stoves? If they did, how would you know which one?
Has there ever been a Sigg Tourist made for Primus 71? I've got an Edelweiss that will take a Primus 71, but only the short version. Maybe since the Primus 71s came with their own box, there wasn't a Sigg Tourist made for them? Anyone know about this? LOL, the 123 Club gets a new member, or should that be disciple? Mine gets plenty hot as well, but not enough to cause instant burns if I forget and pick it up. Now the hunt for a pot set to fit it in begins... The thought occurs that if you removed the washers that hold the burner in place in a Sigg, replaced the rivet with a flat head bolt and wing nut, you could drill several sets of holes for different stoves....

Lots of them on ebay, but can be a trifle spendy. Just make sure you get the 123 version, as there are other varieties. (Coleman 400/550/etc, and Gaz bluet). Eidelweiss (and several clones) makes a smaller, one man kit, but these are somewhat rarer. Happy hunting!
I've always assumed that my 123 getting hot was normal, but it really does get hot, just not hot enough to leave skin on. Has anyone had a 123 vent out the safety valve? Have you still got hair? Cheers Colin
I have but it was on a warm day and with a full 8 pint billy on top. Even 8rs vent occasionally with that type of load.
with mine it was a candle flame but we removed the pot and let it cool straight away. Ive heard of a radius 42 (its mine now but wasnt then) that overheated while simmering It started with a candle flame but within 2 seconds had grown to over a meter long. Just what you want in a Burlap lined hut. Fix was to remove pot and run at full power which reduced pressure. You can blow the flame out but if the stove is still running it will reignite.
