Hi Mike looking at your selection of images, from what I can see from them is the spirit cup is missing its bearing surface, the inner shoulder that sits onto the burners fixing tube / extender. here is an image showing a 99 partly dismantled, and you can see the spirit cup with its flat centre. Can you see if it has been "modified" in anyway s the cup seems to be deep enough to be the original one for this stove.
Hi Mike, as Doc says the photos were very blurred. In addition although you attached around 13 photos to the post you did not click on each photo in turn when you attached the photos to the text, so only the first one appears on the post. The remainder are hidden in the attachment symbol. Perhaps you could send a PT to a moderator to get help in correcting the post. Oh, you seem to have the wrong spirit-cup for this stove. Someone has substituted the spirit-cup from a 1.75/2 pint classic stove and used a large washer to try to cover/tighten on the over-large central hole. Hope this helps. Best Regards, Kerophile.
sorry just a bit impatient....thanks for the pics, the picture of the dismantled stove, if you look at the hole in the aluminium case it has got a slotted hole in it, I am trying to see the piece that screws onto the burner holding the spirit cup in place, then passes through the aluminium case and is secured by a cheese head screw. A picture of this is what I am trying to get. thanks mike
Mike, the spirit cup sits in the bottom of the case,the burner sets through the centre, and the screw holds it all together like a sandwich, case, spirit cup, and burner. Murph
yes but there is a threaded tube bolt call it what you will that screws onto the bottom of the burner and that is what goes through the spirit cup and case, this is the bit I am on about. mike
Mike the threaded part you seem to be concerned about , is called a burner extention. It is correct. what wrong is the spirit cup, yours is for a lipstick burner you need the cup with a small hole in the center. The hole should be the same size as the machined end of the extender. The big washer was added to try and make the wrong cup work. With right cup, discard washer.
yes my spirit cup is the wrong one and so is my burner extension......can someone please take a picture of a proper one. A proper burner extension, I believe will have have flats on the end to fit through the casing. mike
In Doc Mark's post above, #226056, he show a exploded view of a burner assembly for a 9122 stove. The extender threads to the bottom of the valve assembly slipped through thru the spirit cup and is attached from under case with "cheeze head" screw.
I looked through the fettling forum to see any 99 jobs, this was from a 99. I will have another look and link the thread to this one. Were getting there Mike
In your picture, It appears that the emboss in the bottom of the case has been somewhat flattened. If thas the case, than double-d'ing the exender will be very weak. I'd find some washers to fit over the machined part of the extender and under the spirit cup to increase the surface area of the clamp when tightening the screw.
ok ok ok lets start again, the burner has a nut on the bottom, if you look at the picture of the broken 99 burner you can see clearly the unthreaded part has a hexagon part just above, if a spanner is applied to this it will come off leaving a thread that a Optimus 8r spirit cup will fit onto.....now if I get an 8r spirit cup take out the centre part I will be left with a 99 cup...... put this in place of the god know's what I had there and all is hunkey dorey. Thank you all for helping me solving this little dilemma.
O, Whoever has the broken burner could I buy it from you as Base Camp have not got any nuts at the moment unless someone has one to spare. MIKE
