I got a new jet and needle (and a few other bits – but they were trouble free) from Base Camp and fitted it on my 111. Could there be a more awkward little job? Four clicks on the needle then turn to the right and screw the jet in - easy. The needle was fine but trying to start the screw on the jet – Aaaaaaagh! I did get it going though , and then I managed mark the nice square edge when the spanner slipped but never mind. I was expecting a superb flame but was in for disappointment. Have I missed a washer from between the jet and where it screws into? – There seems to be a leak from there. The picture shows the flame when it’s as low as I can get it. Do I just need to screw the jet down tighter? I’m going to dis-assemble the whole thing and try again later but advice would be good if I’m doing something obviously wrong. Thanks Sam
Definitely a leak around the thread. Get some high temperature copper based gasket sealer in small tube and apply on the male (not the female) thread then screw it on. That should cure your problem. Auto parts shop should have it. Graphite based also works. Ron
Hi samb you havae not missed a washer between the jet and vapouriser, fitting a new cleaning needle and jet is a fiddly awkward job on any 111 with roarer burner, and it is a bit awkward to tighten the jet enough to make a perfect seal,i would go with Ron and bajabum advice and use a sealer, but if you could manage to nip up the jet a bit more providing it is not in to tight you will find it may well solve the problem, but all so the female thread could be damaged where a jet may at one time been crossed threaded, but it is most likely not quite screwed in enough to form a good seal
Strange: I had the same problem with a 111 last week. A despairing final tweak of the spanner did the trick (my patience being shot to bits after removing the worn jet and resetting the cleaning needle).
Great advice - thanks: I now have a good flame in the right place. Slight pressure problem though I think - The flame weakens far quicker than with my other stoves. I think I'll empty the paraffin and pump it up then put it in a bucket of water to see if I can find a problem.- unless you suggest something better? Thanks again Sam
