Recently, I reviewed the Sidewinder Ti-Tri Caldera Cone and the BushBuddy Ultra, both of which are wood burning backpacking stoves. Today, I thought I'd do a quick comparison of the two. Please join me as I compare a Sidewinder Ti-Tri Caldera Cone vs. a BushBuddy Ultra on today's Adventure in Stoving. HJ
Hi, Breararnold, You're welcome, and I'm glad you liked it. Wood burning stoves aren't exactly brassie classics, but they sure are fun to cook on. HJ
I've heard some good things about the Emberlit but unfortunately I don't have access to one. Looks interesting, though. HJ
The Emberlit does look interesting. As does the Backcountry Boiler. And the Biolite. And. And. And. HJ
the biolite does look cool... how ever its heavy i could carry a woodstove, trangia and a pocket rocket with fuel for the weight of the biolite alone i would love to see a biolite that goes on a diet
I agree. I don't think the Biolite is practical -- yet. Still, I'd like to see one just to see how it works and to see what makes it tick. I think it would be interesting. HJ
Good artical, Jim! I'm liking the Emberlit, the Ti version could be a chuckle. The only down side I can see is it would still count as an open fire (I think, probably ditto for the others as well) and as such subject to fire regs. Even here we have regional blanket fire bans over summer sometimes. Still, no moving parts and free fuel, kind of hard to argue with...it would smell good, too.
Just looking at the Emberlit, I'd say it's not going to be quite as nice as something like a BushBuddy or a Ti-Tri Caldera Cone. The BushBuddy and the Ti-Tri are doing things to control air flow as well as bring in air from beneath the burning wood. Of course the Emberlit is a heck of a lot cheaper. HJ
