HELP. Think I caught the "collecting" bug from you fellows. Just bought an Optimus 80 in tin (rusty tin, stove nice but needs flame plate) for $40 on e-bay. Was this a good deal or did I overpay??? Gideon
The price is reasonable. Someone may have an extra although ebay has them. They are the same. For 8R, 123, 123R stoves. Ron
Thanks Ron. I have extra flame plate(s) for my Primus Omnifuel that I'll try when I receive the Opt 80. Bought the Omnifuel after the 1998 ice-storm we had here in the east - Coleman fuel 'disappeared' from stores very fast and I wanted the multifuel ability for the "next" time; never yet needed but used the stove when camping.
Yup, utterly stuffed. Bright side tho, you have a useful and flexible fixer-upper I like the 71/80 series, easy to fix, good horsepower for size and sounds right. Prone to being a bit tippy, that whole height to width thing, best stick to smaller pots, 1-2 person sized. My gas stoves commonly run on unleaded auto gas, less than optimal but useful just the same. A couple of liters of petrol removed from your car will cook food and heat water for ages! This is really best done outside, the additives burning off are a real witches brew of toxins, and not the good kind. Could clog your stove, too (fixable) but if thats what you got.....
the only way to feel better now is to buy another stove! your goose is cooked, my friend... welcome to the madhouse! willie
Hello Camper52, Welcome!! I am unofficially posting this motto: Classic Stoves Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may (without really trying) solve their common problem and help others to recover but not fully, from collecting camp stoves. The only requirement for membership is a desire to ease impulsive purchasing of classic stoves or not. There are no dues or fees for CSA membership, however you must join CCS; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. CSA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution. Our primary purpose is to stay involved in the preservation of stoves and help other stoveaholics to achieve more stoves at a reasonable rate.
I believe the underlying requirement is to have an uncontrollable desire to gaze at roaring blue flames...
Yonadav, I wonder if this is why my "machlaka" was never allowed "near" a Flamethrower or ANY pyrotechnics in the NAHAL ??
It's quite okay, if it's only the collecting bug, stoves and perhaps lamps, but I made this: And am building a second bike with a flamethrower this year. Fascinated from flames. I can't tell you what my girlfriend and the neighbours say. So the my illness is a bit bigger. Friedhelm
Excellent! Just checking my facts, that IS a Vesper with a police sticker, blue disco underbody lights and a flaming exhaust, right?
You're quite right. http://youtu.be/biGs5EZ6TGo If you want to see more look for Vespa spitfire at youtube or the channel of fitzeblau, that's me. That Vespa is now located at the clubhouse of my friends in italy to make some confusion at their partys. The story behind this Vespa is that i and a friend one time went suprisingly to a party of our friends that is about 1100 km away from Cologne. We drove for a weekend, with a little lorry down there, without telling anyone that we would come. In the lorry my Honda XBR with police cases, bluelight and siren. One kilometer before the location, we took the Honda out of the lorry, the location is an ex military base and i drove in with bluelight and siren, had an policehelmet on, shouting with a megaphone : this is an alcohol control. Nobody realized that it was me, and there was a big Hallo after they had recognized that it was me and my friend. All night they were driving with my bike , bluelight and siren, through the base and had fun. So we decided to build a bike for them, first idea policebike, second of course italian, and third a bit of disco for their partys. So the project started, to leave the costs low , we took a Vespa that we could get cheap , very early i decided that i want a flamethrower at this,of course bluelight, different siren sounds etc. Also we wanted a bit of disco, musicmachine big loudspeakers, blue underfloorlights, a plasmaball instead of headlight etc. To get that all fired up, i put a little generator on the Vespa,to have enough current, so it is equipped with two motors, for that i had to create some space and reweld the whole backframe of the vespa. When the covers are on, you see nearly nothing of that all and it looks quite like an normal Vespa. This year i start making a Vespa, a smallframevespa with an smallframe Guzzimotor and two flamethrowers to create confusion on several Guzzipartys here in Germany. For the Spitfirevespa i needed 3 months to create, i think for the new one i will need at least a year. Friedhelm
The Guzzi motor would have to be turned sideways to go on the pulley case, huh? I had a lady flatmate who had a V50 Guzzi. SHE should have had a Vespa! My brother's 850 LeMans was a chuckle to ride, too 8)
