Thanks for the kudos folks. Stu: The thread I used on the base is 5/8-18. Big BTU: I'll have a picture for you in a few !! That was full flame. Flame kernel was about 1" above the bell. Mick: It has the code AO/10 on the bottom. 1962 I believe.
Hey, Weasel, just spotted the sequel. Well done! Great testimonial to your Grandad. All the best. John
Big BTU: I used a caliper to mark the center of the shell. Drilled it with a #80 drill bit. I then cut the tube off with a hacksaw. All I was left with was the end. Used a small punch and tapped on opposite sides of the hole until the pricker fit snugly. Sil-brazed the disc to my burner that already was plugged and drilled with a much larger hole. I did have to re-drill and re-tap with a punch because, despite my best efforts, I got some sil-braze in the orifice. A little ugly, but it works. If I had a lathe and a .23mm drill bit, the whole thing would look much better.
Yup, proper job. I certainly admire an original fettling solution, and this ranks as one of the best in my opinion - from one not unknown to have a go at creative solutions himself. John
Yes, I'm bringing up an old thread here I know. I'm still a new Stovie, but every time I go back and read some of these old posts on ideas and homemade solutions to problems that have come up, they never cease to amaze me the creativity and ingenuity that transpires for a solution. So, Cheers to a spectacular fettle job, and not giving up. PS: AO is 1950 date code.
