Not the wrench, the spare generator. You clip the little box with the generator in it over the spring, and the spring stops the genny from rattling inside the box.
is there a photo or diagram of this spare generator / box in place? I think my spare generator is housed in the pump handle. Is it possible that earlier versions of the M1950 didn't hold spare parts in the pump, and used this little box to hold the spare generator instead? Mine is a 1964
No, the clip holds the wrench and the generator box clips itself in place. There's plenty of other stuff rattling on these stoves. The stove comes with an additional spare generator and other spares, including a leather, nrv pips, cap gasket, and graphite packing in the pump tube as well. I suppose you can put the generator box over the clip as well, but I've gotten and been issued several of these new in box and they come out of the box as pictured. Mike
Well, I'll try mine again tomorrow but I generally leave the wrench in the bottom of the tins because it rattles around so much when its mounted on the tank between the shroud supports. I see your point, David. And then there's this. It's not cast in stone where it goes, I suppose. Use what works best for you. I used to shove a piece of cardboard from a ration under the wrench to reduce rattling and bend the little ends of the pot supports a bit so they were held snug against the burner shield. Then a cloth on top and bottom in the case to additionally quiet things down. Mike

It's not much help getting the control knob off. Works great for the burner shield and pump leather though. Mike
so the standard equipped M1950 comes with TWO spare generators: One in the pump handle ...One in the clip?
