Hi, On a few ocassions I have tried to use my BD midi cap on my XGK. The cap worked OK for a short while and then went into underburn, could not understand it. I have now found out what's going on. The burner works great for a short while and then it throws out a small flame not a problem in roarer mode, would not have noticed it if I had not tried the Midi cap. The leak is coming from the Hex nut under the burner bell where the fuel tube enters. Dunked in water to try and find the leak,no joy. Only happens when the stove seems to have been running for a while. Any Ideas? Seen this before? Will it get worse? Bit worried as this is now my main winter burner.
Hi Tim Just to get the ball rolling.........What if the fuel was coming from up through the jet to burner thread. Where you say it happens when the stove has been running for a while, maybe the stove has reached a temperature to ignite the already weeping fuel...... Just a first thought ?
Hi No sign of fuel or any bubbles when dunked in water. Only happens when the stove has been running awhile and things are getting hot,if I turn the stove down and blow the flame out it will not light up again at the lower power setting.
It's got me scratching my head then !!!!! Have you got a second jet to see if it makes any difference ? If there is no obvious fuel leaks, the jet / nipple seems to be the culprit in my confused eyes.
Tried different fuels and jets,no joy. I think it's damaged in some way and when the burner hears up gas is coming either out of a joint or stress rack, which I cannot see with my poor eye sight. See what others who have had a lot of experience with them come up with
If it's a new stove to you, can't you have a chat with the seller ? Seems like that may have been the reason it was sold on.
No it was NOT the reason it was sold on!!!!!!!!! I gave Tim the choice of several XGK’s. I had no idea there was a problem. Tim, send it back and I’ll send you another one. I’ve got far too many and I’m going to get rid of all mine except for a couple.
Can you get a small flat screwdriver in there when it leaking and move it around until the offending flame moves in order to locate the leak? Then possibly a silbraze over the affected location? Mike
I would braze that. Since the crack or spot is hidden you can layer it on. Check out this link https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/20047 Jeff
