Got this at a reasonable price on fleaBay. Seller says it works fine but I will have to get to that later. I am guessing this to be an early 1960's version but no date stamps anywhere. Since it is not particularly rare, I will probably refurbish it.
Cleaned it up a bit tonight and just had to light it. Yup, works fine, albeit the flame is a bit crooked. One thing struck me odd was that the flame plate was made of steel, not brass.
Interesting. I have 71 from 1961 (based on the date code at the base of the vaporizer tube) that also does not have a brass flame spreader. Couldn't understand why I couldn't get it to shine up!
Sparky these are a great little 'user' stoves as I'm sure you know, perfect in a brew kit. Put one of the 1 litre pots with a heat transfer base with it and its a great combo. The case on yours looks to be in pretty good condition, coat of paint and off you go
As can be seen, the stove is missing the chain that keeps the key on board. I don't see one for sale at Base-camp or on fleaBay. Any suggestions on where to get one (or a suitable substitute)?
OK, I have done all I intend to do this stove. The paint is two coats of Dupli-color 500F engine block ceramic enamel in "aluminum" color tint. The burner bell seems to be cocked slightly to one side and this causes the flame to skew to the upside. I really don't want to try to bend it and risk breaking it. I put a repro decal on it as you can see. Beware that these decals are on a white background; when you trim it, trim ALL of the white away right up to the edge of the pattern.
Nice job! Don't worry about the slightly cock eyed flame pattern, it won't make a millimeter of difference during use and you could cause damage trying to fix it. Several of mine do exactly the same thing. Action photo time!
Nice work on the tin there Sparky. Looks great along with the polished up tank! I'd use that in a second. sam
