    HI all,
Im a self employed gardener and from time to time Im asked to clear out garden sheds and garages, its my favourite job as you never know what may turn up =P~ .
Anyway last week I was clearing out a shed for a client who said that I could keep anything I wanted. Most of it was junk and was skipped, but I uncovered a treasure trove of old stoves. There was a brass Burmos paraffin pressure stove which I got working after a little coaxing. :D/, a Primus 96 which Im still working on,and a little meths Ideal Express. 8)
    Regards Les.

I need to start cleaning out sheds.
A free 96 is a very lucky find.

Ideal Express!! That lil meths stove looks exactly like the meths one I have, the 'Stove With No Name', :D/

Welcome aboard, Les, there a couple of garden shed lurkers here abouts. The 96 was a find, did you find the box for it too?

Wow! What a way to fall into this hobby. Guess you are hooked now. "After this things can only get better." Just one word of warning: stay away from my garden shed! [-X

    HI All,
Thanks for the replies, sorry for taking so long to post back.
The stoves were stored in a large retail biscuit tin which was a bit rusty but kept the stoves in good condition over the decades. The tin has 'Biscuits 10 1/2d per half pound'written on it -so that gives a little clue of the era they were packed away in.
The pleasing thing is not only did I get the stoves free I was payed to take them away :D/
The Ideal Express had me puzzled at first as I dident know what it was,I thought it may be some sort of attachment for the Burmos,it only became clear after removing the lid and seeing the burner.I think its quite cute!
I got the Primus 96 going earlier this evening,I made a washer from a old leather belt and its working fine, and it made my first cup of tea.
    Regards Les.

Well done! Be careful though, they do breed....

Check the washer inside the fuel cap. If it is hard like plastic, it needs replacing. It may work okay for a bit but it will eventually let you down.

The non return valve at the bottom of the pump uses a pip of either cork or similar nitrile rubber, this should also be replaced with a new nitrile pip. You will need an NRV tool to get it out, there are many threads here about making or buying such tools.

Ross does kits of replacement washers for the 96 and other stoves. You can send him a PT here or look for 'spiritburner' on eBay.
