Nice work. These and the 502 were just good looking stoves.

    Shagratork said,

I can see why, Trevor, that's a very clean and complete example.

My son-in-law has my 530 for his paintball war games, it's way too "tippy" to cook on IMO.

The M-1950 is much better, just wish it simmered worth a damn. For in the field, the 502 and 8R rock, and the 8R with a BD minicap takes it home for lightweight and size, for my needs.

I haven't tried, but couldn't you try to simmer by adjusting the cleaning lever? That's what they do on the suitcase stoves and just recently figured out you can do that with the lanterns.

Keep in mind that none of the single burner Coleman units were intended to "cook" on. They're all intended to boil water. That's the cooking they are for. Anything else can be done, but won't work well for any length of time.

weasel - you can use the cleaning lever to control the heat on the 530, and it works fairly well for that.
Nordicthug - what single burners are you referring to? All Coleman single burners? You are mistaken, I can simmer on many of my Coleman stoves (550A/B-749, 550B-725, 400, 400B, 533, 576, etc) and better than any Optimus or Primus I've tried so far, and that includes the Primus 41 and Optimus 111 series. I have yet to try the 508, 502 or 500 series among others. They simmer for as long as there is fuel in the tank, but on low you will have to pump every 20 minutes or so.
The 530 is a handsome stove and runs well, it's simmer can be controlled with the cleaning needle. It and other similar generation 'war'-type stoves (520, M-1950, 523, M-527, M-1942) are not as good at simmering as the new crop, but they were not designed to be finesse cookers. More war-horses for, as you stated, boiling water.

You really should get a 502, the perfect car-camp or canoe stove.
... As long as you don't have to carry it all day long..

Thanks baja - I will get a used 502 and try her out. That's one thing I find very limiting the smaller stoves like svea 123, 8r, 99, 71 L, 80, Juwel 34, clones of those, etc is the tight burner size (limited heat radius) and lack of support for bigger pots/fry pans. They are great for 1 or 2 people and your space/weight is limited (backpacking/cycling/etc) and most of your cooking is with water (pasta/stews/dehydrated meals/etc) but to do 2+ and you want to be creative or challenging with your camping meals, side dishes, etc you need something bigger for pot support, a larger heat radius and good range of heat settings. Looking forward to trying the 502, space for a few single-burner stoves is not an issue with the canoe (or kayak on shorter trips).

    Excellent!
If you can, get the pan set/alu box with it, storage amd cook-kit in one.

    Trevor,
That is one very clean looking stove. Can you confirm that the pan handle doubles up as the spanner. Very clever if it does.

    Regards
