Hi All, Hoping someone can help me here. I've got what I think is a Primus Multifuel (pictures attached) which has a leak at the "swivel joint". I can get pressure and the stove actually goes ok, but if the fuel line isn't kept dead straight then the swivel joint gets compressed just a little on one side (bent if you like) and fuel leaks out. The swivel joint has a spring in it which I think is meant to compress, but I'm guessing there is a seal inside which has gone? My real problem is that I have no clue how to get into the darn thing! I've taken the brass "nut" off the back of the pump, but that just goes to the fuel path inside the pump. The swivel joint (not the bit that moves, but the static half) seems to screw into the pump, but I don't have a spanner to fit it. I can't see how removing this will help me get into the swivel joint though? Is this what I need to do? Is there some trick? The thing just spins and spins and pulling it seems to do nothing. Pictures show: Pump, with brass "nut" removed; swivel joint (in centre of image) and two images showing exploded views of this stove. This is a topic on a similar note, but doesn't seem to have a resolution to the problem: Topic Thanks in advance for any help.
It has been quite a few years, but one time I contacted Primus about something, I don't remember what. During the conversation, we talked about pumps, and he had me send both back, and they replaced both pumps with the newer model. My stove is packed away, but, maybe they are familiar with the issue at Primus, and you can get new pumps from them. Sorry, I can't be more help. Ken in NC
Oh heck. My nemesis! As regular readers of the fettling forum on CCS will know, I'm not squeamish about taking things apart and more often than not successfully get them back together again. That joint on the 'old' Primus Omni pump is the one thing that's defeated me in terms of disassembly. I just can't figure how it comes apart. I get this far and no further ... It happens that the joint on mine is still fuel tight, but in the interests of prevenative maintenance I'd like to know that I could replace seals in the component if I had to. Seeing if Primus would replace the pump is a sound, pragmatic suggestion, but I certainly would like to know how to get the thing apart! John
Hi all, on an german Forum there was also that issue. The user made an x-ray of that part of the pump Getting that thing apart is not really possible without destroying it. There is no circlip or anything like that but to secure the parts it is kind of rolled/crimped after assembly. You can see the round edge. Here´s a link to that thread: http://www.outdoorseiten.net/forum/showthread.php?58695-Undichte-Primus-Pumpe I gave the advice to rebuild the outer-part on a lathe with a small change in design to use a circlip so that the o-ring can be changed more simply. http://www.outdoorseiten.net/fotos/showphoto.php?photo=44791&title=primus-stutzen-nderung&cat=500 Later in that thread the user told that he found out that there are two versions of Primus all-aluminum-pumps. One with the rolled/crimped lock(earlyer version?) and a version with a circlip (later version?) Greetings Fenris
Excellent, Fenris, thank you. X-ray! Brilliant. Mine's got the rolled lip. Machining a new outer sleeve with that refinement of a circlip groove is the way to go, indeed. John
Thanks guys. I'm actually a mechanical engineer, so I was almost hoping that it wasn't going to be possible without destroying it, otherwise I would have been rather embarrassed! Although obviously it would have been great to be able to fix it myself. Mine is definitely one that has been rolled/crimped, as there's no circlip in there. I think I will try sending it back to Primus, prehaps via a local shop/distributor. Failing that I guess it will be time to get on a lathe!! Thanks again for your help and clarification.
I've recently bought 2 of these types of pumps. on one, I have exactly the same problem. where/who do I find to either fix or replace this connector? Contact me via a conversation. Leonard
