checking fuel level and function of my dragonfly pump yesterday and could not loosen the fuel 'lever' at all. i did not use pliers(yet) and could not loosen it with all my strength, such as it is. Sooooo, what to do next? haven't had any problems in years save for a oring or two. not desperate to use but it should be in working order when out in the 'wilds'.
Russ, I have not had to rebuild my few DF type pumps. Are they sorta similar in the inside of that valve like the old MSR pumps? Duane Spelling edit, could not spell DF
So, do you mean you can't open the valve? The only time I've had that happen was when I was working on someone else's DF pump that had been cross threaded (inside the valve). Have you done any recent valve maintenance? HJ
Hey Russ, is it the control valve on the dragonfly (the one extending out of the burner) or the flow valve in the pump. I know there were issues with stuck spindles on the dragonfly when shutting it off and it cools down. That is why I normally close the flow valve on the pump and let the remaining fuel burn. It would be odd if it was pump flow valve that gets stuck. Ron
All msrs should be stored with the valves not fully closed. If its that stuck a pair or pliers might work You have little to loose. If it breaks its a new pump but thats where you are now
Is this the part that is stuck? If so, yes, a lot of comments that when you close it while the burner is hot and cools down it gets stuck. Seems the female threaded part grabs on the the male thread and only way to get it unstuck is to gently heat it. Too much heat and you melt the o-ring inside. Ron
Re-posted and forgot about this thread. It's the flow valve ON the pump. I don't actually remember the last time I used it. Might have been trying BerniDawgs DT cap last Oct. Still, it's not like I'm new as using the stove. Thanks, 8)
