BioLite new classic stove?

I saw this stove last year and have been eagerly awaiting its availability. I have tried to contact the makers to no avail. If it ever does become available it will be added to my stove user collection for sure.

He says 1400 degrees fire with no batteries. IMPRESSIVE looks like a very nicely designed new technology.

That "thing" in the power unit is a thermocouple or thermopile.

These devices are commonly used in HVAC and boiler applications the verify flame and hold main burner valves open. Their outputs have increased over the years.

Other woodgas stove depend on batteries so I guess this is a plus.

Neat to see in operation but I don't think it'll make my pack list.

they say the extra electricity that it generates will also charge your cell phone etc.

I like that it is so well insulated too.

 

Exhaust gas sensors use the same mechanic's at the proper heat they generate a measurable voltage. That in turn is monitored by the ECU.

 

What if you are above tree line?

 

I can't think of anywhere where fires are allowed above treeline

 

I can think of vast area of desert here where you will not find anything to burn (at sea level).

There have been some questions raised about how well the components of a biolite type stove will hold up, but if they've got the bugs out, then it'd be an interesting stove for those who live in areas where it can be used.

Lain, can you explain the line from the "In the box" section:"USB cable (for internal battery charging)" Does this mean there IS an internal battery???

I'm also not too enthusiastic about having plastic in close proximity to a naked,(uncontrolled?) flame.

 

I just got mine. It's very well built. The plastic sits about 1/16 in. Frm the burn chamber when mounted. There is a rechargeable battery to run the fan till the teg starts making electricity. The body of the burn chamber gets warm to touch, but not very hot.

 

I've looked at this stove with keen interest. If fuel is a problem, they say wood pellets will work (the sort burned in pellet stoves). A bit above my casual buy budget, but a great idea, that and the larger model. . .I am very interested in hearing how it works from a real person.
