Ex-Fireball. Here is a shot of the 123R that caused so much dissension amonst the ranks earlier this week. I will wait until this evening when it is a bit darker to take flame shots that actually "show up" The tips are a bit yellow, but I am VERY VERY pleased with how it turned out. Congratulations! Please tell us what you did. You can probably eliminate the yellow flame by slightly raising the flame plate - bend its legs a little downwards. Enjoy! Yonadav
First, I removed the cleaning needle, then I replaced the wick...to replace the one that was soaked in kerosene Not that I needed to, but it made me feel better. I then filled it with Coleman white gas and let it sit for about 30 minutes for the wick to absorb the gas. I primed it with denatured alcohol and lit it; it sputtered then took off. At first it sounded like a Huey (UH-1) but then settled into a steady and pleasant roar. When I shut it off after a few minutes, there was a candle flame that remained for about 30 seconds before dying. I have ordered a service kit with new graphite, cleaning needle etc and will clean the valve spindle with emery cloth when that arrives. No need to tear her down more than is needed. Cheers, Woodsy
Here are the flame shots for this stove. I tried bending the arms of the flame spreader down just a bit, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I am a tad "gunshy" about doing too much at this point...It's Running. Cheers Woodsy
Hi, Woodsy, That stove looks great, with a very strong flame!! I'd recommend you burn a couple of tanks full of Coleman fuel before deciding to do anything else. Looks to me is if you stove is burning out any residue that still remains. Also, put a pot of water on it and I'll bet the yellow tips on you flame disappear. Thank you, Doc. I am happy with it. I am pretty sure that the old kerosene has been cleaned out. I rinsed the tank out with fresh Coleman gas and replaced the wick. I will continue with it just the way it is. I boiled a pot of water earlier, and it did a great job. I plan on making coffee with it in the morning. It is going hiking with me next week.
