Svea 123 and my daily coffee

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday I got another used Svea 123, which I picked for a good price on eBay. It came without the windshield, which suits me fine, as there is already a Sigg Tourist set somewhere in the mail on its way to me.

The stove shows its age, but runs like new. All I did was pour in some fuel - didn't even prick the jet or touch the seal, and it burns beautifully. I will keep it with the patina and all.

In the meantime, while waiting for the Sigg set, I mated it with a makeshift windscreen / pot rest which I made last year. I found out this is the best stove setup for making my afternoon coffee, as you will see below.

Great picture record, fantastic home made wind shield idea for a little 123. I'll have to make one for my little "shieldless" 123.

Clever! I have an orphaned 71 that needs something like that to make it functional. Gonna have a project this weekend!

 

Good move to leave it open near the tank. A continuous expanse of foil from the pot to the tank would probably result in the famous "Swedish hand grenade" effect as it over-pressurised.

 

I would second that and add emphasis!! Excellent homemade answer to a 123 with out it's screen!!!

 

I originally built this support for my Optimus 80, which is slightly taller than the 123. As a result, the pot sits about 1/4" higher here than on the original 123 windscreen. This turns out to be a big advantage, as it allows a much better burn, and probably less CO emissions. (look at the 4th photo.)

Is that Sigg in the mail your first? If so, you are going to like that combo....

 

After you get your Sigg kit in the mail, you can use the wire screen to trap rats!

 

LOL The things we do for coffee! I've marked this lash up for later, I have 2 123 burners and only one windshield. Happily I have a Sigg set as well, so no panic...
