Hello all! A few weeks ago, on that eeevil auction site, I picked up a pretty banged up, but complete, SIGG Tourist set for the Svea 123. All the pots and windscreen components are stamped SIGG, but the lid does not have the distinctive raised SIGG Tourist lettering and is stamped Taiwan. Regardless, it fits and works like a champ. So I now have two questions for the assembled wisdom. First, were there copies (knock-offs) of the SIGG Tourist set made in the Far East? How do I account for a Taiwan-produced lid that was clearly made to fit a SIGG Tourist set? Second, was there ever a pot support made for the Tourst set that would allow you to place things like a tea kettle or smaller pot/skillet atop the windscreen stack? If not, are there any recommendations for home made examples? As always, thanks in advance! NE
#1) Yes, clones were made. #2) Metal rod tent pegs work, as would something made from a coat hanger...
As said, clones were made. I had my Taiwan tourist set long before acquiring a real Sigg. Unfortunately the lid on the real set was this one!! It all worked out though- Maybe this is why yours came with a substitute lid?
I've noticed with my Sigg fry pan a definite tendency to stick and burn, you need less heat and/or either more oil or a little water. You'll get the hang of it, they are great sets.
You gotta float whatever you're cooking in a BIG puddle of oil, preferably olive... Otherwise, everything burns... For my one and only Trangia 25, I cheated and got the Teflon skillet/lid... Hmmm, I wonder if that teflon lid fits the Sigg kit.
Hmmm. That answers my question about maybe turning the windscreen over instead to support a small frying pan or pot. Not like it gets used much. Duane
