    Greetings, All,

I posted this in the Stove Reference Gallery, but thought it should be here, too, just to cover the fettling base. So, here it is, again:

Yesterday, I finally fettled my Veritas stove, though testing will have to wait for a few more days. Here are a few photos of the fettle:

Note Stu's outstanding NRV tools, along with a few other needed goodies to fettle this stove. Also, you can see that I've changed the pump bucket to one of Brother Sefa's outstanding leathers, and WOW, what a difference in the pumping!! Excellent, now!

The fuel cap gasket was made of cork, and actually still usable after soaking it in olive oil for a bit. I simply turned it over, and it worked very nicely. The NRV was as hard as a rock, and deeply imprinted. After shaving a new one down a bit, with an Exacto knife, and adding a new lead gasket underneath, the new NRV works a treat and should last for quite a few years.

    Finally, what's a British stove, without some British fuel??!! ;) ;) :D :D :D/

Oh, yeah.... the British fuel was for ME, and not the stove, but it was fun to have these two British products visit for a while, since I'd been working on the both of them at the same time!! ;) ;) 8) :D :D  I'll fire up this little Veritas soon, and will add the flame photos to this post. Great little stove, and I look forward to using it "in anger", as it were!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

    A very enjoyable read, Doc.

The pristine white towelling and the neat array of instruments leave us in no doubt about the 'surgical' precision you bring to the 'operation'. I approve of the form of anesthesia you prescribe.

Hi Doc a very enjoyable documented breakdown, of your fettle of the Veritas.
There were a good few manufacturers, that used cork washers, on the filler cap and cork NRV pips, infact on the early stoves and blowlamps i have they were all fitted with cork washers,i would think this was the best material at the time like viton is today.
The only draw back was it dried up and needed to be kept moist

Nice work Doc, I wish my work area was so clean. Perhaps I'd be able to find the NRV spring I dropped the other day  .

    Regards,
    Terry

So tidy and neat Doc! Wish I could be like that; I am impressed

Terry, It's probably hiding with the two or three that I have dropped as well along with several NRV pips and a couple of jets :rage: . When I eventually get round to cleaning out the shed  , they may turn up, or the Time-Team archeologists will find them some time in the next centuary or two! Steve.

Thanks for the offer Stu. I think I know where it went - down behind the filing cabinet. Can't move it as my back is still 'iffy'. My son is visiting tomorrow so I'll get him to have a look. If not I can always revert to the good old standby of a pen spring  .

    Regards,
    Terry

    Doc

A great fettle of that lovely stove.
Also I was impressed that you had the most important thing while fettling - a bottle of Newkie Broon! 1353154274-muttlaugh.jpg

Fettling and beer. Beer and fettling. They just go together.
