Hello, I have a problem with my Coleman 502, the problem is that it does not have the same output as my centennial stove, and therefore I think that the low output is the reason why it has been stored so long without use. Is it possible to change some part like the mixing-chamber or some other part which might create a tight spot which creates less output/flame? I am not sure if perhaps the generator or fuel pipe might be the problem. If anyone have had the same issue please tell which part you changed to increase the flow of fuel. Perhaps changing all the parts that leads the fuel might help, where can I buy new parts? I really like this stove and it would be a shame to just have it standing unused. Hope that changing parts might get it up and going full power again.
Just wanted to tell that I know that the 502 does not have the same power/watt as a 111. But I tried to boil some water and it never got to the point where i boils, think it was about 0,5-1 liter of water.
Hi Kristian, First suspect is the generator. You remove it by unscrewing the fuel pipe from the bottom of the cleaning control lever, and then releasing the nut that holds the lever assembly in place. After you get the lever and generator out, you can unscrew the generator from the lever. (Be careful to disconnect the cleaning needle hook from the actuating rod). Carefully pull out the cleaning needle, then unscrew the jet from the tip of the generator. The way I cleaned mine was to heat it with a torch while blowing compressed air through it. Careful - it has a coil inside that may shoot out. If you are not up to all this hassle, simply buy a new generator. They are plentiful on eBay, or order from Coleman or "Old Coleman Parts". Also, make sure your pump cup is OK and well oiled, and replace the fuel filler cap seal (same sources as above). In most cases, this should be sufficient. Yonadav
Sounds like fuel flow. Like it's not getting enough. OR Clogged generator or jet. The 502's generator is the easiest to clean. Remove it. clean it out. Make sure the generator coil slides in and out really easily. OR Not enough pressure. The fuel cap gasket has a leak. Replace the fuel cap or replace the gasket in the fuel cap. Test with a known good one. Those are the main areas that cause low output on the 502s and many other Coleman stoves. If you get passed these and still a problem, check back here again. sam
Thanks for the suggestion! Gonna buy myself a "new" generator and try it out. Hopefully it is a faulty produced generator because i dont think the stove has been used very much. The pressure in the stove seems to be alright, it does make a loud and long "hiss" when I open the fuel cap.
Perhaps it is the jet that is faulty? Anyone who knows where I can get a spare one? Or maybe the jet comes with a new generator?
Kristian, These generators are easy to remove from the stove and disassembly for cleaning is easy as well. I'd try cleaning it first before ordering a new one. Ray
To late, already purchased one from USA for $20. Gonna clean the one I have and use it as a spare. Any how, thanks for the help!
Hey Kristian, the pick up tube's end inside the tank has a screen to filter out the dirt. If that thing is gunked up, then you definitely will get a low pressure on your 502. Only way would be to dissasemble the pick up tube and cleaning the filter and pick up tube. Ron
