I have problem with the control valve seals, I need the o ring seals for this, and possibly the graphite seal,Coleman dont appear to list these or a service kit, only the complete valve assy.Does anyone know what size these o rings should be? These seem to have disintergrated by the use of panel wipe, instead of using ordinary unleaded petrol, which I will use in future. Also found that this stove is not so easy to fire up on the naptha, seems like too much air?? Anyone to verify this?
Unleaded petrol is even worse for them. Coleman fuel or Primus Power Fuel are safest. Valve assemblies are sufficiently cheap (I've seen them, with generator, for the price of a generator alone) that you might as well fit one.
More info needed. I believe the 424 is the small 2 burner dual fuel? Made in USA? The Canadian ones are different. There are no o-rings in the valve. There is a carbon valve packing, but if that's leaking out liquid fuel, you can usually tighten it a bit (go slow like 1/8 turn at a time) and that usually allows it to re-seat and seal the stem. Then pump it up and open the valve and see if a fine stream of fuel shoots out the end of the generator. If it does, it's likely going to work fine. If not, the generator or the F/A tube is clogged. Clean or replace the generator first as it's external and easy to get at. Start with the basics-air lever up, light, burn 1 minute, turn air lever down, pump back up. On rare occasions the fuel air tube can be clogged inside and if so, you'll need to pull the valve out of the tank, take it apart and clean it with carb cleaner. Last, don't forget the ever present wisps of spider webs inside the manifold. Run something through the manifold and make sure it's cleaned out. Your stove will be easy to figure out it only has 4 or 5 moving parts. Do the easy stuff first before you pull the valve out of the tank.
Hi, When I took the valve apart I found that the o ring/s were disintegrated into bits, there are 2 grooves so I assume there were two, these obviously need to be a good seal.I have tried to tighten the graphite seal up,but still leaks under pressure. I can get a new valve/generator complete, but I really dont need this since the stove works great.
We have the same leaking stove. Are there O rings that can be replaced? If so what is the size and kind? Did you get yours fixed?
442 Feather or 442 twin-burner suitcase? The thread started two years ago that's been resurrected flipped between 'suitcase' valve issues (carbon packing) and what sounded to me like a 442 Feather (valve with two O-rings).
