hello all i need a bit of advice i am going to have a go at rebuilding a Primus 71 short round case so my questions are. what decals and paint colour should it have? has anyone found a good paint match in high heat!? was the inside of case silver paint or polished metal at one time? can anybody date it for me as it has no date code on base? here it is next to its bigger brother!!!!! thanks in anticipation Blaze
Hello Blaze, well for the inside you could always use the silver manifold paint or go with the barbecue grill black. For the outside, well, I havent really found a match unless....you go to a paint store and bring the tin so they can color match the original colors. Someone may be able to suggest where to get the decals for the tin. Good luck! Ron
i suppose i am putting the cart before the horse ive got to find a way of stamping out the pot rest / heat shield first as this one is corroded beyond repair regards Blaze
Sounds like another candidate for a military # 7 stove case, requires a packing piece under the tank? if it's a short tank model, another possibility would have to be fabricating a pair of pot supports similar to the Optimus 8R. Another scheme you could perhaps try is finding an old Optimus SVEA cooking pot, it's handle & either an old enamelled mug or an army tin plated mug? (WW1/WW2) then onto that clip on pot support with removeable legs in the Frankies mods section finishing finally with a windshield, you'll end up with something looking like the Primus 71 which came with a cookset. If my # 70 didn't have a carrying handle, it would drop straight into a SVEA cooking pot, Another consideration is removing the burner bell & replacing it with a #70 transit cap for when the stove is being transported, provided someone is prepared to make one, I wish to put myself down for one as well, (my 70 has a slight weep if I don't release the filler cap). That'll get the brainbox working=John. ----------------------- If in doubt, brew up.
hi all i built a no7 123r burner and 80 tank a case from ebay as a user and it works great. but i want restore this one to its former glory. i am going to try and make a die and punch to form the heat shield and shot blast the case. i am thinking about it now i just dont no how to do it yet suggestions welcome Blaze
I've three 71's, all of them silver inside and out, one case I sprayed with high temp resistant paint.
G,,day my 71 which has hardly been used. silver inside and out. no date stamp on the bottom, but a what appears to be a printed 0 kerry
Both matt silver inside & out. The shorter one will definetly have a the Primus logo with 'Hjorth' on it. The right hand one could be Hjorth or BAHCO, depending which side of 1955 it is. See this section: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/327
