    Bad Borde

I purchased this Borde from where else but E_  _  _Y, with the seller describing out of total ignorance of the item as, "looks to have no issues and is in excellent condition" :rage: .

After it arrived in the mail, getting it ready and fueled I noticed it had an odd appearance to the lead washer for the seal to the tank. I decided to press on thinking it was from a fumble fingered owner that may have torqued it too much at one time. I also noted the threads on the tank were somewhat loose but the end cap fastened sufficiently enough.

When igniting it using a small amount of meths in an inverted bottle cap I noticed a puddle of fuel forming underneath the Borde.
Sure enough the lead washer was deformed and did not seal correctly and quickly put some distance between the flame and the escaping fuel.

You can see from the photos that the washer is not true and now I am seeking a replacement or appealing to someone who can fabricate some for me. [-o<

I did fix a temporary orange Kerophile washer for a short test burn to see if the stove actually worked, which it does. ;) As a safety feature I would suppose it needs a lead washer. The dimensions are: .0.539 x 0.668 x 0.190 (14mm x 17mm x 2mm) or 9/16” x 5/8” x 1/16”
We can discuss pricing and delivery in a PM. Thank you.

I would be tempted to use viton unless it gets too hot

Easy, bash a fishing sinker flat, punch, or in this case, drill the hole, cut the outer with snips, grab the wife's nail scissors, I dare you. Round outer with file or bench girder. Job done.

I could make you one if you'd like. Just send me the Borde so that I can size it properly. I am a bit busy so return time could be 10-20 years.

PS. Is it me or does that washer NOT look like lead?? It looks like asbestos or something similar. Maybe the viton one you have might be the best choice.

I would not use any rubber on this, only lead! Viton or any other such material will spread open when you put any pressure on it (as in fastening the plug). The small fount also gets rather hot, to hot for rubber imho. I have some lead and a set of punches, if you like I'll try to make a few washers for you. Outer dia will be 18mm, as I don't have a 17mm punch.

    All the best,

    Wim

I use a viton 'O' ring with no problem at all.
It's spread a very very little bit, when it gets too big I'll replace it.

Original washer is lead. They used it for a reason. And yeah, just get a sinker, put it on a throw away pan, melt it and pour it on to a flat surface. Alternatively bashing the lead sinker would work.
