    Hi all,
I thought I'd ask the great fount of knowledge (you guys)- which Coleman single burner would be best for car camping? Price, parts availability, durability, ease of use etc.
I realize they aren't made of brass , but there are bits that are.

COLEMAN 500 Speed master. If you can get a nice one they are slathered in chrome and weigh about 4 pounds. Have a wonderful spider web design grill, older models, and look a treat. Excellent output and big enough for a full size pan.

not crome rob Nickel is the shinny side but regardless of nickel or paint they are a great stove on which to base a good car camping outfit. My only complaint with them is they are buggers in the wind so be sure to have a good windshield about.

My preference would be an older 413 two burner but if your set on a single burner you can't go wrong wit a 500 speedmanster.

Steve: I concur! The 500, along with the 500a, are rugged and dependable camping stoves. I take two with me when I go. I use them along side of my Dutch Oven/charcoal rigs. The smaller 502 (quite common on eBay) is also a great Coleman stove. If the 500's are to big for you check out the 502's. Good luck and have fun. Gordon

I'll say Sportster--the old nickel Speedmasters are kind of fun if you want an old
retro stove to cook on--i think the burner is to small as is the filler pipe and if you lose
that tiny cap your stuck--they are hard to find --the Sportster is a bit more ho-hum..
nothing to show off in the campground but it has a larger Peak style burner and a big
tank without feet that sits nice on a table--and if you need repair parts out on the road
almost any "big box" home store should have what you need--untill I ran across CCS
and the 111's I was using a Sportster for most of my car and river float camping--

533 is a goody, not flash, not fancy - but it does the business.
    Cheap and very effective.
