G,,day that is soooooooooo beautiful. I am not sure if even I would have the heart to light it. but then the devil (I am Tasmanian) in me would get the better, "what does it burn like ?" I don't know. but it is so nice. cheers Kerry oops, I just had a closer look at the photos, and it appears to have been used.
Hi Kerry, What is the point of a "camping" stove if you don't light it. I have bought several unused stoves - they did not stay unused for long! If you want to know what they burn like I have some recent photos of a 41 silent in operation here: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/24541
Like a few others I've seen in the SRG this one has clean & off at the conventional ends of the dial ie off = needle down.
G,,day. snowgoose, I was being sarcastic. over other comments as whether to light an unused stove. I would. I have to see what it is like. but I only glanced at the photos, and blundered. cheers kerry
I have a foot in both camps - some unused ones I'd light if needed, others I wouldn't. I think it depends where the needle points on the 'collector-enthusiast' scale.
G'day Kerry, That is indeed a nice stove, as to what it burns like, it's probably closest to an Optimus 111T hiker or a Primus/Optimus no 5 with a silent burner, everyone here dreams of finding the bargain of a lifetime at a flea market/charity shop &c, indeed, some have done so. . Best wishes from the 'Old country'=Johnno. ----------------------- If in doubt, brew up.
Spiritburner said, Well, that's what it says on the control spindle knob, but when you look at the geometry of the set-up, with the axis of the spindle passing to the right of the needle, it can only mean clockwise to raise the needle (and shut-off). Optimus 111, control spindle axis to the left of the needle, anti-clockwise to clean and clockwise to lower the needle and shut off. What might have happened is that those control spindles of silent burner 41's in the Stove Ref Gallery that 'contradict' the actual motion of needle/spindle rotation could have been borrowed (or be replacements) from the Primus 41 roarer burner version, which follows the Optimus convention. John
Hi All, That is really an item of great beauty, I'll keep dreaming and looking under every cabbage leaf there is. Those who look the hardest get the luckiest. The way the whole lot comes out the case for easy cleaning is great. I'd be happy to settle for the roarer version. cheers Sootty B Fingers
@John - very possible. I was on the phone before & didn't get past the first pic loading. The Høvik looks like it may be the exception. I wonder if there are others? Had to laugh with my memory issues. I've been scouring the old catalogues I have for more info on the 41 burner & then discovered when reading old posts I did exactly the same 3 years ago!
I see what you mean about the Hovik version Ross. Different layout. Don't punish yourself over memory issues incidentally ... suggests a full and fullfilling life merely. John
