This is a nice Optimus 45 that I have built from original spare parts and completed with a splendid set of reproduction pan supports made by Stu (Loco7stove), thanks Stu   . All I had was the tank and it is in such good condition and with a lovely patina, I just had to complete it. If someone can put a date to it I will add it to the gallery. I think it may be early 1960's :?: . Steve.

Very nice restoration Steve. Here is part of a post that Kerophile wrote 13-7-09 regarding dating, hope this helps.

"The Optimus 48 is sister to the Op.45 roarer so I guess they share a common design and nearly all parts. Here is something I wrote on an Op.45 thread a few months ago:

"...with stoves things are never simple. Over its lifetime the air-release screw on the Optimus 45 would seem to have moved around a bit!

    1. From the top of the tank,in the 1920 and 1929 catalogues.

2.To the top of the fuel filler cap in the 1939 catalogue.

    3. To the side of the filler upstand in the 1954 catalogue.

    4. To the top of the fuel filler cap in the 1959 and 1962 catalogues. Then,

    5. Finally, back to the side of the filler upstand in the 1972 catalogue".

    The post-

Thanks Rick, I am fairly sure that this is a an early 1960-ish stove. Had very little use, looking at the tank, and I am pretty sure that if it was a very much earlier one, there would be more signs of use. The riser tube is only on loan  while I try and get it copied   ! That might be easier said than done :-k :-k . Steve.

I use Optimus 45s and 48s more than any other stoves, they are great cooking stoves with the power of a two pinter but packable like a 00.
The risers are popular for making big burner 00s so if you can get some made they'll sell.

    Hi Steve,

Great job on restoring your Optimus 45. As for where you can find the riser tube, I have seen quite a few on the bay of evil. If I'm right you can still get the riser tube for your 45 at Base Camp. I just checked and the riser tube is available at Base-Camp, Part #2011 Rising tube for 45, 48 £ 6.50. Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Norman

Great looking stove. I will have to do lots of research to know what time frame mine is, but I simply want to use it so it really does not matter... Love looking at these pics though!! Thanks!!
