Hi, just got a Primus 210 from a local market place which should be a fun project I guess after the Optimus 8R and Primus 71.

Looking at the gallery and some pics, this would be a late 60's model? No markings on the box or date on the burner. The box looks like this one here: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/22248

Tried to light it but didn't get much power out of it, primed it pretty long with plenty of spirit. Only a yellow flame from one quarter of the burner (see pic and movie) after closing the valve and many many pumps. The nipple is open, I can get in it with the pricker.

The rubber from the tank lid looks good, the leather cup from the pump is also soft.

It builds up pressure I think, because when opening the valve there is a pretty long 'hisss' when release the pressure.

My first step will be to order a Kit B from Fettle Box - but is there anything I can do in the mean time?
What can, and should I take apart for cleaning? How can I check if the NRV is OK?

Sorry for all these questions, I hope someone can help out a bit.

The ring around the burner head is a tiny bit deformed on one side so I'll try to rebend that into shape.

Removed the seals around the cup, and the lead one in the tube, so I'll wait for FettleBox now.

Tried the tank in hot water and under pressure (couple of pumps) with the transport cap on it and air valve closed and it had no leaks at all.

Also, half the manual is in Arabic (or looks like Arabic)? There is also Arabic text on the head (it says 'Made in Sweden' on one axis, and on the other axis Arabic text.

Have you made sure that the jet is not partly blocked? I would remove the jet and ensure that it is clear, and also make sure that the burner is not a bit clogged with carbon deposits. If you do not get a good airflow through the burner when the jet is out, give it the "heat and quench" treatment. Lots of posts on the site covering that aspect.

Thanks, looks like I need a jet removal tool then (and probably a spare 2500 jet would be a good idea). Would that be this tool from Base-Camp.CO.UK:

    2560 Jointed key for jets 2500/2/3, 00, 1, 2, 5, 510/45 £11.95

    or this one

Jet Key 'R' Roarer burner jointed jet removal tool, 2 pint stoves including Optimus, Primus, Radius, Svea, Parasene, Burmos Monitor etc. £2.50

On the Bay I see things like a 15 piece kit which includes a "universal jointed jet removing tool" from Kibworth DIY or a "Swivel head tool jointed, for removing jet from Roarer burner and Silent burner" from A&H

    Help...

I received today the 15 piece kit, which was £5.50 + £2.25 postage, from Parafinalia. The included jointed key will work with your stove, and the spare jets will fit. I've just replaced the one on my 1960s Optimus 00 which is identical to your 210 apart from the name.

I got the kit as I also needed some prickers but it would be slightly cheaper for you to get the Universal Joint key and a single jet separately. I found it a bit fiddly fitting the new jet as there is not much room to reach in and locate the threads but I managed in the end without cross threading it.

Just got the tools, and new jets.

Replaced the jet - that went pretty easy.

Also took out the NRV, looks to be in good order, rubber is still soft and spring works good. Also got out the lead NRV washer, so now I'm hoping an envelope from FettleBox will drop in the mail tomorrow to finish it with the washers and then fire it up to see if everything works.

So, got the kit from fettlebox yesterday.

Attempt #1 - Only changed the washers on the burner column - primed it, closed the valve, pumped it up, and it spilled kerosene everywhere near the spirit cup so I got a nice inferno in the garden ...

Attempt #2 - tightened the burner column much much more in a vice - primed it, closed the valve, pumped it up - not much happened - pumped some more - and BOOOM - it lit up ... still have my hair ... it ran fine and roared good. Boiled several kettles of water and it ran for almost 1/2 an hour.

Attempt #3 - later in the evening, primed it, closed the valve, pumped it up, it started spraying kerosene, again an inferno - close the valve - let it burn up the kerosene in the cup, closed the valve again, pumped some more and it burned again. Tried some more pumping but the pump 'slipped' many times and couldn't create any pressure. Probably there was some room between the leather and the pump housing.

So I figured I should really try to clean the burner head and replace some more parts.

So this evening, did the heat-and-quench-and-tap-tap-tap and got quite some grit out of it. Replace the seals on the column again and refitted it to the head with some copper grease. Refitted the jet also with copper grease. Replaced the filler cap gasket, replaced the pump leather. (pip was still good).

Fired it up, and all went smoothly. No inferno this time and no booms or other unexpected behaviour.

So a happy end - will take pictures tomorrow.

Tried it another time - went smoothly

    Here is a video: http://youtu.be/_e6SSr83EGc

Flame tips are yellow and flare yellow especially when windy - The kerosene I'm using is good quality. Any idea why the tips are more yellow then I see in most pictures?

That looks as good as it gets to me! It may improve after you have run a couple of tanks of kero through it. Well done    - Steve.

That is burning well. Yellow flames and a fluttery sound when the wind gets up is normal. A folding windshield like this is a good thing to have:

Thanks, yes, I have a windshield so I'll use that.

Also, tried out the flame spreader from my recently aquired Radius 21 (not running yet) which is not curved but more straight. That also improved it, so i straightened out the one one the Primus a bit and it runs even better now. Less yellow and a bit more concentrated. The flames now shout out at approx a 45 degree angle , they were a bit more horizontal at first.

Pretty powerful burner it is, it boils 1 liter in 6 minutes.
