I did follow the instructions... for the 1st burn on paraffin. The second burn on paraffin didn't go too well and paraffin produces a lot of soot, a lot more than when I tried my Trangia burner running on 99.99 % isopropanol to see how sooty it burned. I'll stick with the cleaner burning Coleman fuel unless I get some Aspen to try My paper instructions must be early ones as there are bits where they forgot to alter in sections cut and pasted from the Primus OmniFuel Manual: 6. ASSEMBLING AND OPERATING THE APPLIANCE WITH LIQUID FUEL (Fig. 4) 6.01 The appliance is delivered with three jets. Jet 32 is for cartridge gas and for white gas and unleaded petrol, and jet 28 for kerosene, diesel oil and similar fuels. Ensure that the correct jet is installed. 6.4 Swing the legs (pan supports) (12) into position in the wind shield (11). The PDF on Trangia's web site doesn't have the three jet error and the section 6.4 in my manual is omitted completely.
Sounds like you won that X2 in the eBay auction that I also bid on. I have now bought a new one from Amazon (pictures in the stove gallery). When I fired it up on gas it spluttered quite a lot and the flame wouldn't stay lit. Eventually it ran fine. Haven't run it on liquid fuel yet. I am guessing that these stoves have some crud in them from manufacture but that eventually clears. Regarding the instructions, even the ones on the Trangia website are out of date. The set that came with mine rate the stove at 23000W, not the 1600W in the web set. I will be posting some flame shots and other comments in due course.
I noticed a few specks of something in the vaporiser when I changed from the factory fitted gas/petrol jet to the kero. I cleaned it out with a nylon brush when I refitted the gas jet. Yeah, it's the one of ebay. I was watching it for a week with no bids. I have Trangia set as one of the auto searches on my phone as I want another 25 but with Stainless or Duossal pots and pan. A similar 27 would be nice too. I wonder if it's the spindle that acts as a restrictor on the X2? I'm tempted to get and fit the OmniFuel spindle and spindle handle to get at the burner adjustment instead of at the valve control.
I have just got a Primus Omni Fuel service kit as its handy to have, it fits nicely in the zipped pocket in the Trangia X2 pouch and I can try the Omni Fuels jets for LP Gas 0.45 and White Gas 0.37 instead of the compromise 0.32 jet of the X2. I just got a lightly used Trangia 25-6UL too. The gas regulator hole in the lower wind shield is higher up in the UL than my old 25-1. So it looks like it doesn't need modifying for the control valve for a Omni Fuel or Optimus Nova. I've enlarged the fuel pipe hole slightly so the nut fits through ready for when I get an Omni Fuel spindle and handle. My X2 didn't have a fuel filter fitted between the flex pipe and burner.
Hi GTD So did you fit the Omni Fuel spindle and handle? I am interested in your result if you did. This exactly what I want to do. I believe the parts will fit and the inside of the fuel line that is connected to the burner is threaded - so that makes me think the Omni Fuel spindle will fit ok. My X2 was purchased in Feb 2016 and it also came without a filter. The exploded diagram doesn't show a filter, so that's ok then. I have e-mailed both trangia.se and Primus.se for clarification. Trangia responded very fast by directing me to Primus. I still await an answer from Primus. Thanks Ian
EDIT: Just had a reply from Primus.se - no, the Omnifuel spindle will not fit. Apparently the spindle will be too long for the tube leading to the burner and it is NOT threaded inside as I thought. Ian
