I was wondering if anyone knew of a source for brass gauze? It seems to be missing from my 96s riser tube, and I was wondering if it might help the yellow tinged flame, and has to be worth a try before looking for a new tube. All I can find when searching for brass gause are 'pipe screens' for the dope heads Would cutting a bit of mesh from a seive or a tea strainer serve the same purpose? sorry for so many questions. cheers stuarty
I've got two 96s - one with and one without the mesh - no visible difference in performance. Someone did an article on making the jet on a 96 smaller by means of a hammer and mandrel.
I have some. Sent a couple of versions out to a couple of members but don't know which one worked best, if at all. Unfortunatley I'm heading out of country for about a week and will not be able to send any out for a while. PM me if you have not found another source by the time I get back. CB
Try a search for brass screening or brass mesh. Here in the US it is stocked by industrial suppliers and sometimes hardware stores.
I think it was Lance who posted that he found a source, but he is regularly away from the Forum due to work commitments ... give it a few days and he'll pop in again. Otherwise we can send Doc Mark out on the road to locate hin Spudz
Thanks for all the replies, and for the kind offer Canadian Burner. I think my first port of call will be the teas strainer.
I have made one out of a kitchen sieve, and it seems to help the preheating slightly, but makes no difference to the yellow tinged flame. Also upon triple checking, Base Camp list the gauze for a couple of quid, I had just assumed it came as part of the vapouriser tube....
