i have ran acetone from a coleman 425e. dont know if it was the best idea, ran good for about 15-20 mins...

Thought it was a good idea to try to clean it out after sitting for years. did not notice any ill effects from it

8r would defiantly be a fail It will only run on gasolene preferably white gas
Not sure about the 502 Others have made it run on kero so it should work although it wasnt designed to

    Hi,

Stoddard solvent is a form of kerosene based cleaning solvent used mainly with paints, known as white spirit/turpentine substitute in the UK.

MSR list it as a kerosene fuel for use in their XGK stove, here's the wikipedia page.

Monkeyboy, this post seems like deja vu all over again. Didn't we have a similar discussion last week?

Did we ever determine if Mudzoory is Missouri, USA? People I've met from Missouri usually pronounce it Misery.
Why do you want to use alternative fuels? Just go to walmart and get a gallon of coleman fuel for $10.
I've never seen pure stoddard solvent being sold retail. I don't see an advantage of burning odorless mineral spirits instead of kerosene and the higher cost doesn't make it a good choice either.

I don't plan on burning Stoddard solvent or mineral spirits in a Svea123. I'm just curious to know if anyone has ever used it in a gas burner/ cooker out of necessity .
All these various products called petroleum distillates are very similar in hydro-C molecular weight so it seems to me burning one or the other in a stove would be feasible if no other fuel was on hand.
A friend asked me if I had any mineral spirits so he could clean some metal for painting. I am going to give him a can of old camping fuel mixed with a small amount of mineral spirits for the job at hand.
Looking up the MSDS of mineral spirits got me to thinking about substituting one hydro-C product for the other.

Thanks for all the replies. Very interesting forum discussion .
By the way, Naptha is used to produce gasoline, go figure.

Stoddard solvent is effectively kerosene. It will burn reasonably in a kerosene stove, but not well in a gasoline/petrol stove, especially not in one that is intended to be self-pressurizing.

If one did burn it in a pumped petrol stove, it would burn rich (orange/yellow), just like burning kero in a multi-fuel stove using the petrol jet.

Stoddard solvent is just clean, standardized kerosene, for all intents and purposes.
