Greetings, All, Well, donv and I got to meet up today, and had a bit of lunch, and some fun conversation, before giving his 111T a look. When he brought out his Optimus stove, it turned out to be an early version of the 111T, without the multi-tool wrench/spindle combo. Personally, I prefer his version, and my own like that, to the combo tool versions, for several reasons. In any case, his stove is in outstanding condition, and looks to have been used very, very little since it was new. I freed up a stuck SRV, and removed his NRV to check that, too. After adding a new lead gasket, and tightening up the NRV assembly, we reassembled that part of the stove and went on the check his jets, and restrictors. Looks like he has a one jet for kero/Coleman fuel, and one for Meths, but he has three restrictors, two of which are for Meths, and one for Coleman fuel. Here is donv, along with his fine Optimus 111T stove: Once I showed him how many pumps his stove requires to get fully up to speed, he realized that he'd been underpumping the stove, by a good bit. I also showed him that the burner requires a good, healthy dose of Meths to prime it properly, and after oiling his pump o-ring, and lighting up the prime, his 111T took off just like it was brand new!! I carried it into the back of my Jeep, so he could see the flames, and we could see how well it burned, and how well it simmered. Aside from an outer cap with some over-lapping holes, which made for 6 oversize holes, in those rows, instead of 12 single holes in the same area, his stove ran like a champ, and simmered very well, indeed!! Once he gets used to it, I think he's going to love this stove, just as so many others of us do here at CCS!! Here are the two of us, about to part company, after a fun lunch, some great conversation, and some successful stove testing: We were both pleased to meet up, and I think that donv learned a few things about his great Optimus 111T stove, and should be well pleased with it!! Donv, it was great meeting you today, and getting to spend a little time getting to know each other, and playing with your great stove! Hopefully, you can come to some of our CASG events, and then you can meet a few more of our resident Nutter Stovies from CCS!! In So. Cal, we have Big Jim, Arch, Hikin' Jim, and several others, in addition to Sweet Bride and me, and if you add in BajaBum, Ron, HikerDuane, and BernieDawg, all who have attended past Stove Gatherings, we have a nice little stove family going!! Hearty congratulations on getting such a nice 111T, and well done on your work fettling so far. A few more things to learn, and you'll feel right at home with your stoves! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
thanks Doc, Awesome hang today. Great to meet you and I truly appreciate you stopping by and helping me get the stove running well. Looking forward to meeting up again in the future.
Way to go, donv and Doc! Nice to see a few stovies get together and get the old ones back up and running! sam
still got a little bit of fuel leaking into the pump tube. That is the old pip that i put in the new NRV so maybe that's the culprit. A&H is sending a new NRV. When i get that i'll report back.
Hi, donv, Darn it! Maybe I should have disassembled the NRV and taken a look at it! I had NOS NRV's with me, bought from a fine Gent in Finland, and could have replaced the one you had. But, as it is new, it should work very well. Let me know what you find when A&H sends a new NRV. By the way, the NRV they sent you looks to have been made by either another company, or a machinist. Seems well made, and it should be working. But, I'd like to compare the disassembled parts to a NOS original NRV, made in Sweden. Maybe next time we get together, or at a future CASG. Again, I had a fun time yesterday, and not to worry, any remaining bugs will soon be ironed out of your stove, and it runs very well! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
stretched the spring a bit, and tightened 1/4 turn more and seems to be dry in the tube after burning for 10 minutes. i'll still probably replace with the new NRV when it arrives. Where can i buy replacement pips and washers?
Hey, donv, Our friends at A&H can sell you both the NRV pips, and the lead NRV washers. That's where I've bought them in the past, as well as from some of our overseas Stovie friends at CCS. If your 111T is running the way it should right now, I'd save the NRV you have coming, for future use, and also order a half dozen pips and lead washers. Add in some Nitrile, or Viton rubber fuel cap gaskets, which you can buy from Ross, in "The Fettle Box", here at CCS, and VOILA, you have a nice little repair kit for your great stove!! Have fun, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
