Hey all, i have a chance to buy an optimus nova from a friend for $40. its about 12 years old and has the CEJN connector according to him. I don't know much about these stoves but have heard that the newer ones have had problems. anyone have one and like it?
Howdy, I have two of the Swedish made Novas, and love them both!!! Make sure to see that it actually says, "Made in Sweden", and not just "Sweden" on the box, paperwork, and maybe the stove, too. Have one. Works fine. However I get annoyed when a rubber gasket needs replacing. I prefer it to my dragonfly but not to my 111b. For forty... Sure.
Donv, just buy it, its a great stove. One thing with the connector is to smear a little silicone or grease (butter at a push) on it or it sometimes leaks a little fuel when you separate the stove from pump. Do that and you have a trouble free stove.
For $40 you can't lose on that one. The CEJN version of the Nova is better than the later models. Like Rik says you may have to replace an o-ring or something but it is worth it. If you have to do it, here's an excellent post by Prescall: CEJN fitting strip-down sam
Really hard to find a pump for it, and really expensive. Too bad. Maybe there'll be one available around the corner. sam
if it's old enough to have the hex nut stay clear as they are liable to shear off , but then you do end up with a full set of spares including the "rare" pump when the Nova disintegrates
Hey, donv, Brunton carried the Swedish-Made Novas for a while, but I have no idea if they continue to rep Nova after Optimus changed to Chinese manufacturing. Best to look at the fuel tube that is brazed onto the burner. Check along the bottom/left edge, and if it is marked, "Made in Sweden", you have one of the good ones. Hope that helps. My first Nova was a Brunton, came in their box but was Swedish made, sent to me via an American member. Good stove and still in use now. Brunton sold out to someone, maybe Silva?
