Hello all! I was looking on the web to find a decent way to get rid of a minor dent in my blowlamp. Then I found the article listed below. And after I tried this, I found out that it actually works!! Nice tip mate, I've got some of these magnets with the hooks on and they're strong magnets. Just got to remember where I put the steel balls now, probably in a safe place somewhere.
What I did, was using a microfibre-cloth under the magnet, soaked with motor oil. Then no scratched were made!
I don't know about Europe, but in the USA steel balls of sundry diameters are available in sporting goods stores for use as slingshot (catapult) ammunition. I have a tin can of 5/16" and 3/8" diameter balls somewhere in the snake pit. I quit using them to pop 'possums and racoons because the darn balls ricochet all over the neighborhood fetching planters off porch railings, denting cars and breaking the odd front room window. Much safer to use lemon drops or jelly beans. They are lighter and go faster giving more sting. And if one misses the critter and hits a window, all that results is a "Pock!" noise and no evidence. That and the little critters get a treat. When I'm hunting, sometimes I'll see a grouse or two. I've stopped shooting them in favor of a good slingshot and a .50 Cal. lead ball. A hit in the body will stun a grouse long enough for me to find the bird and administer the "Koop de Grassie". Usually by wringing the unfortunate bird's neck. A lead round ball at slingshot velocities doesn't even make a noticeable bruise. And it is completely silent. The third bonus is there's no shot to watch for while dining. Gerry
Easiest way to get "ammo" for this procedure, is to visit an auto-garage. Guess you get worn-out ball bearings for free! Use your grinder and pop them open, and voila!
