Hey, Henry, VERY nice, indeed, Lad!! Yeah, you "old" guys "is" fantastic!!!!!! 8) A job well done, and I can hardly wait to see how it works for you. I'll bet it works a treat! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Wonderful pix from all concerned! Those Bordes do have a weird fasination about them, I have to wonder how much experimentation went into the flower-like flame spreader?
Excuse me if I'm wrong (I'm just a SFB lampie!), but I thought you primed those by holding them more-or-less horizontally, upside down (i.e. with the flame spreader underneath) so that the priming flames heated the coil thingy... I'd like one, but maybe me and something called a 'Bomb' might not be a good combination...
Henry, Re "Burns a bit yellowy though. is this normal " Yes, it'll turn blue once fully under steam, especially with a pan on top. Also the flame spreader will become red hot, once again this is normal. Is yours the older version (made by Borde himself) or the newer (made by his successor Nordert Bader)? Jur P.S. Could somebody explain how to make those handy quote-screens in an answering post?
I thought that as well David ! This looks like a challenge to produce an instructional video - over to you Henry
Here we go test run for the wind shield/pot stand. Thought I'd try it on my new wall, didn't want to chance the wooden bench again It could be a bit stronger but it worked well. Gorden I don't think it would take the weight of your 25lb DO especially full of stew Barra Noisey, no I wouldn't say so. David Sorry to be thick SFB The instructions say turn upside down light the dripping petrol (gulp ) and hold like that to warm the coil but like you IO've heard it called a bomb!! : So I flipped it over and put it down as quickly as poss, it warmed up OK Jur The box says Borde so i guess it's an older one, any way to date them?
Yeah I ignored that one bloody brats CB Thanks for the dimensions I'm sure it's not as stable as yours. Back to the yellow flame, it didn't really burn blue blue when it got warmed up and it made my coffee pot sooty. Is that just because it's petrol?
Morning, Henry, As to your Borde burning a little yellow: it may well be burning off some junk left in the tank in the manufacturing process. You said that it appeared unlit, or very close to it. So, I'd burn a few tanks of fuel, and see if things clean up. If you take a peek at the photo of my Borde, burning inside the Swiss Ranger cookset, you will see a good example of how the flame should appear. Mine is running on Coleman fuel. What are you burning in yours? Also, please note that the flame spreader on my Borde is somewhat different than yours. Note that yours has a bump in the center, where the post underneath has come up from the bottom, and the post on mine was welded onto the bottom, with no appearance on the other side. Interesting.... I've had mine for more than 20 years, and so figure that this is one of the original ones. But, other than the flame spreader, yours and your box, is identical to mine. OH, and the adjustment tool is a little different, as Dave Gibson mentioned, with that loop on the end. Maybe you got the "Royal" Borde, and Dave and I got the common-man's Borde??!! One thing that I like about yours and mine, is that the burner is staight up and down. I've seen many of the "newer" Bordes with the burner leaning slightly forward! I wouldn't like that....... Again, congrats on getting yours, and I'm looking forward to hearing how the 0-ring in place of the lead gasket works out for you. "Bomb", INDEED!!!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
As for the burning yellow, mine would only do that if I really openned it up. If throttled back a little it buned nice and blue and still had a good size flame. I kept trying to get a bigger flame but it would always start to burn yellow. Coleman fuel in mine, or at least a knock off brand... CB
Henry, I think you're getting a bit ahead of yourself on the whole petrol bit. Ease up man before you catch that beard of yours on fire.
SFB - sh*t for brains... I don't know - you big wuss! Get it lit properly like the instructions show, and have James take some pictures while you're on...
The first time i did mine outside more flame then i thought did it two times then after that in the house when you know how i use a BBQ lighter on it first 10 or 15 second then open burner and away we go over the kitchen sink
PROPER FLAME-- i think i read "someplace"--that the flame on a Borde should be adjusted untill it runs blue--that is it's hottest running temp--open the valve too much and you are running a yellow flame and using/wasteing too much fuel and not getting anymore heat---i would like also to see some dateing information on these--i have both types, the one with the rounded end on the tank --which is my "user" and the flat end tank which is in the box and never fired up--
Hey, Dave, May we please have photos of both of your Bordes, side by side, for comparison sake? I don't really know what you mean when you say "flat end tank". The burner end of my Borde is flat-ended, but I've never seen anything else. I am very interested to see the differences you have mentioned. Thanks, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
