Hi folks, Here is a stove from my collection that is called Phoebus "Essarco". I am at a loss to explain what "essarco" means, generally the stove looks very similar to the Phoebus 30 shows here. The tin seems to be identical. Is that kind of a special edition of the Phoebus 30 ? I don't know. Enjoy the pics of this nice stove cheers Mike
Hi Michael. You have a lovely Phoebus stove and tin. The graphics on the tin are very well preserved. As you say, it does appear to be a special edition Phoebus No.30. I did a quick search and found a reference to an Oil Co. called Essarco, which used to be in business in the 1930s: I have, in the past, seen stoves with the name of an Oil Co. or fuel suppliers engraved on the tank, so that is a possibility. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi Mike, I have just been studying the tin of your stove, and earlier posts of Phoebus No.30s. I see that your stove tin has the logo of a crest with the letters BEG. The rest of the graphics are very obviously Phoebus. The other Phoebus stoves/tins posted on CCS have the more familiar Lighthouse and JMR logos. I wonder what the BEG stands for? Best Regards, Kerophile
I think BEG & the logo on the tin may be the key here. Anyone recognise them? BEG is a tough one to google. I found the same reference as George to Essarco but it seemed a dead end - no picture of the truck which I was hoping for - with logo etc. Essar Co is a big company involved in oil among other things but only founded in 1969 whereas this stove is c1930's. There have been tie-ins with oil companies & stove makers before - The Vacuum Oil Co with Radius & Hipolito to produce the Sunflower stoves being the well known one. What I noticed with these is that it is usually the bigger, more domestic models they use. Fascinating conundrum a great stove. Nice to see such coming out of Austria.
Hi, here is a link to a Tres Etoiles (Svea) stove: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/6218 There was obviously a tie-in with The Standard Oil Co. in this case. I agree with Ross that the tank engraving, linking Oil Cos. to stoves, tends to be on the larger, domestic models. However, I am sure many will have seen adverts, applied as transfers, such as "Esso Blue" and "Pink Paraffin" attached to camping and picnic stoves, here in the UK. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Brenner Eisenbahn GmbH a possible http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&langpair=de|en&u=http://www.beg.co.at/&prev=/translate_s?hl=en&q=BEG&sl=en&tl=de]maybe?[/url] Not a petro/chemical company and no idea of the age of it but .... just clutching at straws really
Dear friends, As I needed to relocate and cleared my gardenhouse I am selling many of my stoves. If you are interested in this unique Phoebus please send me a private message. I would like to see this go to a fellow collector. Kind regards, Michael

Aye, Essarco is not the Essar Co I was referring to. I can't read the type. Does this give any further clues to Essarco?
